My problem with Hayes is I don't believe he is a 2nd line center. He is more of a 2b or 3a center. Patrick is the same thing at this point in his career. So IMO if we sign Hayes as our center, then it isn't much help. Duchene however is a 1b or 2a center. Like him or not he scores 30g 40a a year. And we could either keep a super deep center group as Patrick and Frost get better, or move Duchene to wing. - youarewrong
If Giroux is moved back to the wing, who is the 3rd center after Couturier and Patrick?

That's not an accurate statement about Duchene's prouction. He has on 70 pt season in his career, and that was back in 13-'14, his second year in the league. And he has one 30 goal season. |

glad i missed the flyers game.
played my own, first of the spring/summer season, and my first in 1 year, as i've been recovering my disc/fusion surgery. i have played very well in pickup games over the last few weeks prepping. last night, first shot on goal was deflected by own dman's stick trying to block a shot when i had a clear lane to stop what would have been routine, and right into the net. i never got settled after that, and played like ass, including 2 more own goal deflections.
but we won the game. i guess that's what matters.
hockey is stupid.
go the flyers. - hammarby31

Honestly Duchene is someone Flyers could use but I would pass on him strictly because of his attitude. He is on his 3rd team and honestly it doesnt look good for him. Avs were not a playoff team, he left and they improved significantly. This season they are struggling with goaltending but nevertheless they were a playoff team after dealing him. Ottawa was doing fairly well until the Duchene deal, it was early in the season still but things sort of fell apart around when he joined the team. Now he is trade to Columbus and they are falling apart. The other thing that comes to mind is the poor example he was for the young guys in Ottawa with the cab ride video. He said he stopped paying attention to the team meetings. That is not a good influence you want with the young players on our roster.

See Panarin scares me the same way. I haven't liked how he's handled himself. Makes me think he has some serious personality issues. I'm leery of us chasing him as a FA. I doubt we get him so it's not a huge fear, but he screams primadonna to me. Just my opinion. |

As a kid I rolled off my bed in my sleep and smacked the side of my face on the corner of a dresser. Nearly lost my eye. I have a scar there and its literally right beside my eye. Just the smallest movement to the right and it would have gotten my eye |

If we are looking for a C. Why not explore Kadri in offseason? Couple years left on a friendly contract. Can be the 3rd C IF Patrick is ready but capable #2 as well. Leafs will be looking to shed salary. Might be worth exploring |

Pascal Laberge scored his first pro goal with the Phantoms last night, he underwent hip surgery in September, was just activated recently, and is looking good. One to keep an eye on |

I definitely pick up a bit of a flakey vibe from Panarin too, and think you're concern in warranted. But he has elite skills. As far as comparing him to Duchense, it's not really that close IMO. Panarin has 70+ points every year he's been in the league. I admit there may be some risk involved with his personality, but I'm willing to take that risk to bring in his skill set. That said, I completely understand why some aren't.
Plus, if we were to get coach Q, maybe that would help in that regard. But that's strictly a guess/hope on my part. I really don't know anything about their relationship from their Chicago days |

I'm happy for him that he was able to get back on the ice at all. He's had all sorts of injury problems. |

If Giroux is moved back to the wing, who is the 3rd center after Couturier and Patrick? - MJL
Hopefully its a UFA that is a 2nd line center, and I slot Patrick in at 3rd center for a year or 2. It wont hurt him. I believe Giroux spent 3 seasons at 3rd line center. Then I have Frost move to wing to start his career and can transition to center when a 3rd line spot opens up. That is why Duchene is ideal to me. Next season he can be our 2nd line center, then the following year Patrick maybe slots up to 2nd line and Duchene moves to his wing, while Frost takes over 3rd line center.
2020
Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
JVR-Duchene-Voracek
Lindblom-Patrick-Frost
Laughton-Rubtsov/Voroboyov-Hartman
2021
Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
Duchene-Patrick-Voracek
JVR-Frost-Lindblom
Farabee-????-????
the ???? can be almost any combination of Hartman, Lindblom, Laughton, Voroboyov, Rubstov, maybe JOB, maybe Allison, maybe Ratcliffe..... Going to have a lot of choices....
At the end of 2021 is the expansion draft so hopefully we can get Seattle to take one of our bigger contracts so we will have room to sign our youngings to bigger deals. One of Voracek, Duchene, or JVR.
This just seems so much more dynamic then if you put Hayes in there. |

He has 29 right now. A lot of the rest are due to injuries. |

I'm really not a fan of Duchene. Seems to me like he's one of those strictly offensive players who certainly can score and produce but I just don't feel like he's the kind of player to give that big UFA deal to. Maybe I'm off base here but that's the feeling I get. - MJL
It’s funny this is mentioned. Coming out of his draft, everyone was becoming compared to Mike Richards and Duchene was one of those “two way players” who was compared to Richards. |

I'm not a fan of chasing Duchene (or really any of the possible top-tier UFA F's after Stone came off the table), but to put any sort of blame on him for what happened with his teams is a horse poop narrative.
Especially Ottawa.
Duchene isn't the reason why ownership was too cheap to pay Stone/Dzingel/Karlsson, or the reason why Hoffman's GF went psycho, or the reason why they handed Bobby Ryan that stupid contract, or the reason that Craig Anderson got old, or the reason why they hired Guy Boucher, who is kind of a bad coach.
Colorado wasn't much better. Complete poop-show until recently. |

True. He'll finish with very nice stats for this season.
And I don't mean to come across as saying he's garbage. He's defineitly a good player, and could help the Flyers. I just think it's going to take an overpay to get him. I'd just rather aim higher, or look elsewhere all together. I would not hate having Duchense on the team, just not my preference. |

I think all the GM’s working this board are looking for a center. I don’t know if Chuck Fletcher is looking for a center. |

I don't know what to make of Duchene. His fancy numbers don't look that great, but he hasn't exactly been in good team/cultural situations. |
