Hypothetical:
If you could sign Duchene and Vanek for the same price as Skinner alone, would you walk away from Skinner? |

If skinner signs for less than 9, no.
But we should have signed Vanek 2 years ago. |

I know. Kinda runs counter to Phil’s reputation as a “defensive guru”. Let’s keep an eye on Montour for the rest of the year. He’s started out pretty well. If there’s clear regression then we have a bigger problem than I thought. |

No
Vanek is 35
However if you can tell me they can move Okposo I would say sign Skinner, Duchene(long term) and Vanek for a year or two |

I kinda lean towards YES.
Edit: Nevermind, Vanek is old... I do like the Idea of Duchene though. |

no...tired of darcy's core (see pommer) and Duchene may end up being nothing more than ror-light...I like skinner and like his game, despite his present nine-game scoring drought |

I dunno, man. The only UFAs on the team are Skinner and Pommer. The RFAs are Larsson, Girgs, Rodrigo, McCabe and Ullmark. We might be in for yet another DOGpoop Sabre season, barring major moves. |

Botts should know the leash is only so long. If we're bottom 10 next year, he's probably out. If that's the case, I expect there to be some movement.
Also think Montour will help. |

All JB needs to do is convince the Pegulas that the team is progressing. He can indicate increased point totals from last year to this. He can point to improvements from Jack, Sam and Dahlin. And yes, the acquisition of Montour. He’ll have a high draft pick to trot out after this year too.
We know Botts is patient, it’s hard to tell the Pegulas’ level of patience. I’d think his job is very safe for a few years at least. |

Larsson - let walk, unless Sobotka is dealt somehow
Girgs- let walk
Rodrigo, qualify
McCabe, qualify
Ullmark, qualify
4th line of
Wilson, ERod, Okposo
Or
Wilson, Larsson, Okposo
That is all the thinking that should be consummed on the 4th line.
How the F does Botts
- get rid of Scandella
- get rid of Sobotka
- get rid of Bogo
- trade Risto for 1RW , 2LW or 2C (2C like RNH would be the target IMO)
- Sign Dzingle for 2LW |

Sabres have a lot of crummy contracts it seems we’ll have to wait till the end of next year to be rid of.

MHP or Pegulaville -
If Sabres end up picking 8/9 ... who are your top 3 prospects in the draft?
No choosing Hughes, Kakko, Prov???? ... but a sound prospect in that 8 range. |

Honestly picks 3-9 are a wash depending on whose higher on each teams board. Most likely Matthew Boldy or Peyton Krebs would be on the board and I really like both players. Alex Newhook is dominating the BCHL and could always rise into the top 10 but I think 8 might be a little early for him, however people said the same thing about Keller and that worked out for the Coyotes. Kirby Dach is a 6’5 Centre that may fall in the draft and be available there as well. Trevor Zegras and Alex Turcotte (as well as Boldy) are apart of a really stacked Under 18 American team but I don’t think they fall to the 8th pick. Another wild card is Arthur Kaliyev but I see scouts are really divided on him so it would depend if we are one of those teams. Vasili Poskolzin should be a top 5 lock but Russian factor could drop him in the draft (reminds of Brad Marchand with the mix of skill and pestiness) |

It's not as bad as you make it sound. 1 years deals are much easier to trade, bury, or buyout. I don't see Sobotka back next year, one way or another.

JBotts needs to load up on players with more than a bit of truculence in their game.
Forwards and Dmen ... boys who instinctively go to the net consistently...screw that perimeter play game...go get ugly and earn a spot in qthe hall of fame!! |

I agree with Ion though that if Sobotka is back next year he’s the 4C and bye bye Larsson. |

Olofsson-Eichel-Nyquist/Donskoi
Skinner-Mitts-Reinhart
Erod-Nelson-Thompson
Sheary-Sobotka-Okposo
Could be a realistic and affordable forward lineup. |
