The last three major volcanic eruptions have produced more carbon in the atmosphere that the last 100 years of industrial contributions but hey...keep trying

#koolaid.

- LordHumungous

A quick google reveals:

"Volcanic eruptions cause short-term climate changes and contribute to natural climate variability," says Georgiy Stenchikov, a research professor with the Department of Environmental Sciences at Rutgers University. "Exploring effects of volcanic eruption allows us to better understand important physical mechanisms in the climate system that are initiated by volcanic forcing."

Man-made, or "anthropogenic" emissions can make the consequences of volcanic eruptions on the global climate system more severe, Stenchikov says. For instance, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in the atmosphere start a chain of chemical reactions on aerosol surfaces that destroy ozone molecules in the mid-latitude stratosphere, intensifying observed stratospheric ozone depletion.

Fossil fuel emissions are easy to track using economic statistics. We know fairly precisely how much oil, natural gas, and coal are traded annually and that combustion of these sources emits about 10 billion metric tons of carbon each year. A few brave souls have measured carbon emissions from active volcanoes. They amount to less than one percent of fossil fuel emissions.

One might argue that it’s not ongoing volcanic emissions that matter, but rather the emissions from large eruptions that occur sporadically and are difficult to measure. If these were a significant carbon source, eruptions would cause a “blip” in the atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations. There are no such blips in the record, only a steady annual increase from fossil fuel emissions since 1957.

Volcanoes emit CO2 both on land and underwater. Underwater volcanoes emit between 66 to 97 million tonnes of CO2 per year. However, this is balanced by the carbon sink provided by newly formed ocean floor lava. Consequently, underwater volcanoes have little effect on atmospheric CO2 levels. The greater contribution comes from subaerial volcanoes (subaerial means "under the air", referring to land volcanoes). Subaerial volcanoes are estimated to emit 242 million tonnes of CO2 per year (Mörner and Etiope (2002)).

In contrast, humans are currently emitting around 29 billion tonnes of CO2 per year (EIA). Human CO2 emissions are over 100 times greater than volcanic CO2 emissions. This is apparent when comparing atmospheric CO2 levels to volcanic activity since 1960. Even strong volcanic eruptions such as Pinatubo, El Chicon and Agung had little discernable impact on CO2 levels. In fact, the rate of change of CO2 levels actually drops slightly after a volcanic eruption, possibly due to the cooling effect of aerosols.

I just don't want the same D back . If you are bringing back Edler then go Edler Hughes and Sautner on the Left . Trade Hutton

Hutton would fit perfectly on the Leafs

I never seen last nights game, but, by all accounts, Pouliot was terrible.
Hopefully he has played his last game as a Canuck.

Dont even try to say it's not you either. Everyone knows it is

How was a single thing I said inflammatory? I just said he's playing like a top 5 goalie and it was a back to back, 3 games in 4 nights.

Temper temper.

I think Lockwood to Utica and Hughes up here would make more sense. But if they want to give Lockwood his cup of coffee, waive Schaller, Poo, Granny. Has Sutter been put on LTIR?
- NewYorkNuck

Yes Sutter has been shut down.

If you believe in the scientific method, you can’t just pick and choose. The earth is an orb, vax your kids and climate change has been accelerated by human activity.

The other two are moral/ethical. All five aren’t hockey

I think we go .500 to finish and end up right around where we are now. 6 or 7th

Edler has upped his game for the contract. Which sucks for us because next year when he is injured for 1/3rd of the season we will get no return. Is what it is I guess.

Dragon said Green is a very good coach I wonder what Marwood thinks lol

- LordHumungous

He hates everyone all of the time doesn't matter who.

On green, he was mentioned here by many and in sports articles for coach of the year. So it's not just me. It's funny how fickle this bunch is

It's actually climate change and it's real. The warmer ocean currents have (frank)ed the jetstream hence the long cold February across North American.

lol no doubt.

There's no point trying to convince the climate change/global warming crowd with facts they pretty much have their minds made up. I mean...how do you think clowns like Trudeau and Obama get elected?

Interesting comparison.

6. Nico Sturm, Center, Junior(‘95), Clarkson

Sturm has put up decent scoring numbers as the top line center for Clarkson, but what really impresses scouts is the detail-oriented 200-foot game that he plays.

As a 6’3” center, he has potential to be the consummate third or fourth line NHL center that plays a grinding defensive game and does all the little things to make his team better in the mold of a Jay Beagle.

I don't hate Green and don't love him yet. I said it early on that his NHL playing experiences might help here and I think it has. Much like WD he has alot to learn but he is showing better signs at this stage.

Kicker should be next season when he technically has a better roster to work with. It's playoffs in the next year or two or he and Benning are done.

Green has done great i exoected this team to be bottom 3 all year. Instead we’ve had glimpses of this team in the future led by the kids. Done a great job with JV, Ep Stecher and Goldy. I like what both him and Benning have done. There’s no instant results, but i like what I see after 3 years of rebuilding.
