This is the Oilers, though. I wouldn't put any level of stupidity beyond their hypothetical reach. If there's any franchise that would hire Nonis, it's the Oilers. - MaximumBone

Well seeing as they did 1 proper search out of thier last 4 GMs it just goes to show if they do it proper or not they will find a creative way to (frank) it up - RatedR80
Verbeek for GM and he gets to pick his staff. Ensure the new GM brings in a skilled cap manager that isn't named Bill Scott. Try to retain Woodcroft and his staff as Condors coach to let him hone his craft and keep developing players. Hire Todd Nelson as our coach and let him pick his staff (ideally can retain Yawney in some capacity). |

I'll restate:
It's not gonna happen. Before Sekera returned, this team was 8 points out; since he returned, the team has gone 5-1-2 and they're still 7 points back. That's a pace of 1.5 standing points/game. If they were to continue that pace until the end of the year, they'd add 24 points (10-2-4) and reach just 89 points on the year. Meanwhile, our opposition that have 72 and 73 points respectively only need to play one win above .500 in order to beat us out. And this is without mentioning the Coyotes who have been on a good tear themselves and are 4 points ahead of us. |

In any other year I would agree 100% but the bottom half of the west is so streaky this year it’s possible....the Wild might stumble as might Arizona or the Avs but then again the Oilers could easily do the same....but if all else fails we do have L50Ns chase for 50 goals - RatedR80
Or we might stumble as we've already shown to do quite regularly this year. Regardless, the race for 50 and 100 for Leon will be exciting to watch! |

Especially Dave Manson with the Condors staff....he has done a really good job with that defence group this year.....wouldn’t mind Nelson but I have a feeling our new coach will be a guy currently coaching a JR team

It’s crazy that this franchise might have 2 guys in the top 5 for points and fail to make the playoffs....only the Oilers have the ability to pull off such a feat

Or maybe they'll bring Knoblauch in from Philly just to scratch that McDavid itch. |

Very possible too but then again if an idiot runs the team watch them go after Carlyle or someone to that effect

Curious to look at league averages from the past 10 years.
https://www.hockey-refere...ce.com/leagues/stats.html
League average sv% is down to 2008-09 levels despite 1.16 fewer PP opportunities per game. Even strength scoring is up so substantially this year that it'll require a reset of people's expectations of offense and goalies. Amazing what a few minor tweaks to faceoffs and goalie equipment can do for the game! |

These next 48 are huge if they have any chance in hell at a playoff spot. Need a win against van and minny to lose to tampa tonight, and then minny plays again tomorrow. If minny somehow loses to the panthers we would be 5 points out with 2 games in hand. |

Hey I would gladly take on anyone who worked under Yzerman in Tampa Bay.....while Yzerman has proved to be a good GM I feel like you need a good team around you as well yo be successful so that wouldn’t hurt my feelings if they looked at Verbeek - RatedR80

I think it's actually possible they make it.
McDavid always seems to go on a tear at the end of the season and there are only 3 teams ahead of the Oilers.
I'd prefer they don't make it but playoff hoxkey would be nice - Oilers4Life14

Coyotes are a perfect example of what im saying. We can easily go a similar run and get in.

We absolutely could but there is a far greater chance that JB gets laid and even that is a very remote possibility. |
