Should be Johnson. Will likely be Pettersson. - Victoro311
Yeah. There were times in Gudbranson's time in Vancouver, when he should have been benched (I seem to remember him being on ice for 5 GA against either Toronto or Columbus) but due to the injuries that plagued the Canuck's defense, with both Edler and Tanev being hurt, Green was forced to play him. He and Pouliot formed a particularly horrific pairing, and Pouliot still shows signs of being a poope defenseman.
Did you want Pouliot back too? Please? |

I don't see where he said he would deter anything?
Since you are a bit of a dummy though go find a "Cheapshots against per 60" stat and come back to me with the result. Deter =|= prevent, they are two separate things. Until you find numbers that tell a different story, I will make the case that Gud has in fact deterred cheap shots. - MacPatty

Dude, you’re seriously reaching Aussie level stubbornness. Is it deliberate? Your question was answered clear as day. - Rinosaur
Not really though. Protecting happens when there is a scrum and someone goes after Crosby. Stop trying to infer that JR mean no one on the Pens will get hit because they have Gud.
Stubborn is reaching to find a reason to criticize a guy who everyone wants to hate because "advanced stats".

hahaha ...well....Wilson has one goal with 15 games left, also none in 34 games he played with the Panthers. He did however have 40 goals/46 assists in 66 games one season in the OHL though...

You’re wanting to interpret words that are clear as day. Others here, including myself, who are/were serious detractors of the Gudbranson trade have been giving him recognition; that’s the opposite of stubborn.

Are you really arguing that deter and prevent are different?
the definition of deter is: to prevent something from happening.

I don’t recall Lucic doing anything after Cooke ended Savard’s career. - j.boyd919
Its so funny, because if there was ever a time for a player to end anothers career, it would have been for Lucic to end Cookes on that night and save countless more talents from injury.
But it didnt happen and it never happens. |

|

I was surprised that RW almost said something nice about Gudbranson.....oh nope, he still found a way to female dog about him.
Where was the JJ bashing in this one?? |

That's pretty dramatic. I thought it was a good hit on Savard, there were no rules against targeting the head back then. |

The deterrence topic is exactly the same as the "Botterill made all the good moves" topic...
You can't prove anything in any way.
You can't prove someone deters something if it never happens. All you can do is female dog when any single occurrence happens that Gudbranson didn't prevent.
saying Gudbranson was brought in to protect players but didn't deter Werenski from hitting Guentzel is like female doging that we traded for Kessel for scoring but female dog about every game he doesn't score.
Botterill was he cap genius who let the 5 defenseman fiasco happen, but he's a genius and GMJR is incompetent. And you don't know who was the main driver for individual trades/roster moves.
Point is you can't say anything definitively on these topics. |

I actually think the paragraph Gudbranson got was unfair. I usually defend RW when he poops on guys cus usually he's poopting on guys that aren't playing well enough, but in this case he made a sarcastic remark about Gudbranson not being sub replacement level. He's actually been quite a bit above replacement level, and you know what? If JR went out and got him as a deterrent and accidentally stumbled back asswards into a player that will contribute on the ice instead, I'll take that trade off a million days out of the week. |

What are you talking about? Someone else says they wish someone ended Cookes career and Im classless for just mentioning it occurred prior to the head check rule?? Ok...
Cooke was a great player for the Penguins. |
