Gotcha. So it all counts against the cap still. I don’t really get the benefit of it. I’ll do some more digging.

Thanks Hunk

If I'm right about the way it works, the benefit is all for the player. A giant check now is always better than a bunch of smaller checks later, especially considering most of that money is probably being put to work for the player.

If he invests all of the nine million right away and finds a way to live off a measly three million, he'll be making quite a bit more money in a year.

Thanks for the link Jesse, it definitely makes sense incase of probably another future lockout, it will be interesting to see in the offseason what the Flames sign Tkachuk for.

Yes it will. Marner is going to bury the leafs. Be an interesting summer LOTS of free agents to be had. I can see some offer sheets coming this year as well.

I see that the Leafs will have to trade Nylander in the offseason to get under the cap after signing Marner which will probably be 10-12 Million per season I'm thinking. Its crazy to think we got JG signed for 6.75 M when they are both similar players.

Flames fans - with a couple of weeks' of hindsight - would you be more willing now to give up a top prospect like Valimaki and/or Dube if it meant landing Stone in a deadline trade? My understanding is Treliving wasn't willing to include the prospects necessary for a deal.

Not trying to troll. I am curious if fans are willing to sacrifice some of the future to try and make a run at the Cup now.

Vegas is unbeaten with Stone and he hasn't been on the ice for a single goal against since joining them. Their possession numbers have sky rocketed across the board as well with the balance he brings to their lineup.

I am sure Calgary would have seen similar results. Would it have been worth losing one or two of your top prospects?

- punchanello77

Absolutely not. As good as the Flames have been this season, it is foolish to give away top prospects for a win now. At least, at this point.

A lot of people seem to forget that this is the first time the Flames have been in the position they are, and I get the school of thought of "you have to go for every oppprtunity you get", but I don't agree with it for the Flames. Not now. Not yet. Whatever happens this year, there isn't a reason to think they can't get there next year right now.

This Flames team has never been in this position before. That is going to come with some adversity and they are going to have to go through it together one way or the other, for better or worse. This is a team that is still learning what it takes to win. That isn't always going to be sunshines and rainbows.

Treliving said after the deadline that this team is going to go through what they are for the first time, and that sometimes you need to get some battle scars. Things aren't looking too hot right now but I'd rather this team go through this now than in the playoffs. They have to learn how to overcome adversity eventually and this is the first real adversity they've faced all season. If this didn't happen now and happened in the playoffs instead we'd all be saying they blew it and squandered a chance.

This team has as good a shot as anybody to go all the way. But you can't win in the playoffs without knowing how to overcome the hard times.

We're already miles ahead of where anybody thought we would be this season. Take that as it is and ride it for as long as you can. Whatever happens, this has been a great season and a reason to believe we can get there, either now or in the future.

We're going to have to beat at least one of San Jose and Vegas if we want to win regardless of what round we face them in. And we can. We have beaten them both already this season. But they still have the rest of the season to play first and are right now dealing with true adversity for really the first time all season. Learning how to overcome that now could be what makes the difference come playoff time.

I want to see a complete blender with the lines. ...they have got stagnant and if it’s even for one game I’d like to see players given new line mates so they don’t get complacent with their regulars

Someone clear up how this signing bonus works against a teams cap? Vegas is heading into a cap mess already.

- jessehub

Yeah, as of next season, they're screwed. I also think the bonus means the player gets paid even if there's work stoppage. When you also consider what they gave up to get Stone, what the hell were they thinking ? Stone is good but he's not worth it IMO. Glad Tre stayed away.

Why would this lead to a lockout? How the players split their CBA agreed chunk of the revenue pie makes no difference to the owners & teams. It's going to put a split between the players. 20-80 rule will have to be sorted by the PU. Im sure teams wont mind if players union want a ceiling on RFA's salaries.

Wrong Kevin R, playoffs are completely different and I rather have home ice advantage guaranteed at least for the first two rounds. The Flames haven't won a game in Vegas period and haven't won in San Jose this year. You're logic is stupid. More then likely if the Flames win the Pacific they win the west. I think anyone other then you will agree its better to have home ice advantage in a series.
- FlamesFan1230

Well now you are just being stupid on your perception of reality if you think just because we have home ice advantage & play a wild card we are guaranteed victory. Last I saw, we have been having difficulties beating both Dallas & Minnesota at home. If we cant beat San Jose or Vegas on the road it is pretty unlikely we get past the 2nd round anyway.

Hey my fellow flame fans. I know it's been a bit of a doom and gloom chunk of the season but to help you get your mind off it, I released a Hockey Day in Canada montage!

When you get bored, I'd appreciate a look! If you like it, please share and like the actual video. It really helps on platforms like this when starting out to get the message out. I've been meaning to get into hockey montages and I finally got around to finishing this after weeks. It's my first edit so all constructive feedback is welcome! The first part I realize has a bit too much light editing, but the last ~1:00 has gotten some great reviews (from friends) so far.

I'm planning on making more. Being a diehard flames fan, I'm going to try and make one come playoff time. All clips were from CBC/Sportsnet and music from Metric (Dark Saturday) Thanks!

Let’s see what these fckers are made of now!! If Monahan is not injured trade the bastard. If he’s hurt and they aren’t sitting him fire everyone!! This team playing like this will be out in the first round. Sad really!

If they keep playing like this, they'll be fine. They looked like the better team in 3.5 of the 4 losses. Bad luck and bad bounces have cost them games, but a seven-game series evens out the luck.

Monahan is right about to bust out of the slump. He's getting the chances, but he's overthinking things. As soon as one goes in, expect a bunch to follow. I bet he gets at least two tomorrow.
