I don't think you can bank on Juolevi to be NHL ready to start the year. I would hang on to Hutton and trade him for assets if Juolevi lights it up in the AHL to start the year. He should still have value as he is not old and has proven he can play lots of minutes.
I understand the sentiment of not wanting to bring back the same busted D corps but I think adding a top 4 RHD is more important than cutting a LHD loose - NorthNuck
If OJ is not ready then use Briesbois as a 7 th. Don't lock into a term contract with Hutton. He can easily be traded for a tier two player that can score.

Anyone who believes this team will be “good” next year is an idiot.
Better?
Sure, but the bar has been set pretty low. Being better isn’t much of an accomplishment. At least not yet. |

Serious question , how do you know what next years team is? You have 14 players under contract, 40 mil in cap space , prospects that may be ready, and existing players of the 14 that could be traded. What will the roster be? |

I don't know how anyone can answer that at this time ?
Is your top line Kakko Panarin and Petey or Loui Petey and Goldobin?
Is Edler your top D or Karlsson? |

Fair enough, but history tells its that it usually ends up in the Canucks being bridesmaids, and then panicking and overpaying for "Plan B" guys like Myers, B.Nelson, Ferland, etc. |

I understand. I have seen a lot of insiders say Canucks are going big fish hunting this summer.
I am like most and don't have faith in management but there is a lot of questions to be answered before I make predictions.
Will Edler Tanev JV Eriksson Hutton Pouliot OJ be part of the team next year ? Will they make trades ? Who will they draft and who will they sign as UFAs and RFAs?

I’ve been on the GMJB is doing a fine job, stay the course bandwagon for quite sometime. But I am starting to come around to the idea of a new GM. Someone shrewd like Stevie Y. Benning hasn’t been awful and he deserves some credit for drafting. EP Gaudette Brock and a few others were great picks. However, there have been some incredible misses in there as well. The Virtanen pick I can get over and understand. Hell, he’s still improving. But I don’t think I’ll ever get over watching the OJ draft. “From the London Knights the Vancouver Canucks sel...” I remember thinking, finally we have a player who would block a shot with his teeth if it meant winning....And then OJ was selected. That was an unconscionable miss. It will haunt us for 15 years, and has set this organization back immensely. Maybe OJ turns into Dan Hamhuis. That is the best case scenario at this point. And that miss would still be considered atrocious. I don’t even need to bring up most of the pro signings. The good far outweighs the bad.
I would like to see a general manager with some business acumen(Stevie Y), and a coach with some Stanley cup experience (Quenville) take this organization to the next step. It is time. And stuff. |

I don't know why the process has to be slow? Vegas can take a bunch of other teams rejects and can go to the SCF in one year. We have contracts for half a team next year if you trade a couple of players like Tanev and Sutter. Why does it need to take 10 years?

I was yelling at my TV in frustration as Derrick Pouliot and Alex Biega circled around their own zone as the final seconds ticked away, wondering why they were on the ice. But of course Travis Green was pretty much alternating them with the Edler-Stecher pairing as he tried to generate that tying goal; Ashton Sautner played just three shifts in the third period and Luke Schenn played four.
-Carol
And yet Green is still given a pass with his ice time management, "Edler followed up his 27:06 of ice time against Toronto with a 29:25 night in Edmonton, while Stecher played 27:47 on Wednesday and 26:50 on Thursday."
On back to back nights if you don't have faith in the players you dress and resort to running certain players into the ground, it's no wonder there are injuries.

Thanks Carol.
The Canucks were never going to make the playoffs because I can't remember the last time they strung wins together.
This is a lot of the hate TG gets is his use of players in game. I was a bit annoyed that Horvat played so much against Richardson after Richardson continued to lit him up. - manvanfan
Yup, poor player deployment. |

It’s not Greens fault that Benning has given him Schenn/ Pouliot/ Sautner etc. Any coach would ride his only 4 NHL level Dmen |

I am not talking about him as losing him for nothing. I look at him right now as a B type player. He has value . A team like TO that has cap problems and wants a cheap reliable Dman. They have a few scoring wingers and prospects they can trade for. Lets face it Hughes is going to be the 2 LHD very soon so do you need a 4 mil bottom pair guy? |

I’m a pessimist, so option B across the board. I’m basing this off of nothing but my miserable outlook on the team and the history of the current managent group, plus the constant reminder by several on here that Acqua will be all in on playoffs for the 50th season.
Lui, Sutter, Beagle, Granlund, Baertschi, Tanev, Edler aren’t going anywhere. There’s literally nothing on the farm that’s going to make this team better (yet). Yes, Hughes will almost certainly be here, and that will help, but next year will look a lot like this year. Some exciting play by the young guys paired with less exciting play by the old guys. |
