You have carried on this entire conversation having only seen it from the camera angle. Jake is the only one who could see what was going to happen and he said he was bracing for a hit. Are you saying he's lying? You know better than he did? How?
What's Jakes history? Is he ever dirty? Do the math and stop being so lazy.
You pontificate your BS as if you were on the ice. You were not. You "know" nothing of the incident, but what the refs called and the limited angle the camera showed. Look at the rest of the facts please. - BadCowboyDan
why are you so upset with MJL? Pretty sure he didn't have anything to do with the suspension. Facts are Jake got the penalty during the game and a suspension for the hit. Those are the only facts that matter. NHL Player Safety had all the info that is available and made this decision. Where's the BS? |

The DOPS is not allowed to rule on it. They must think Voracek is a liar and they know better than he does! How could they know what Voracek is thinking? |

Is there any point to appealing this decision? Are these things ever reversed? How badly is Boychuk hurt? |

The DOPS didn’t mention him being hurt on the play. Odd |

Only a Flyer could get a suspension for hitting a guy in the shoulder preparing for a hit. |

Yeah. Just watch the Dops explanation of the suspension. No doubt it was a penalty. But B was about to crush V. He excelerated for a big hit. They said there was no way for him to expect any contact. Poor speculating. He was driving fast and hard towards V and he didn’t expect contact. Right Dops. He just wasn’t ready for the amount of return fire. - peesinwind
The wording on the video about why it is suspended “....and the force of the hit....” OMG Voracek barely moved!

834 games...quite a run. Flyers win these 2 games. I laugh with you, Jake...not at you. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 |

Twitter :
He got two games and it is a total f-ing joke, along with the DOPS claim that Boychuk was pursuing the puck and not a hit on Voracek. Awful ruling. - arichardson22
Somebody in the Islanders org must have some clout w/ the officials/DOPS.
Inexplicable otherwise. |

2 games is the max for this bs. I don't fully understand this ruling, but IMO, I think Jake moved into Boychuks path. It was clearly interference. Not sure it warranted 2 games but it happened.
Ed Snider would be on the phone with those a holes right now. |

I don't have a problem with Voracek getting two games for that. What I have a problem with is Voracek getting two games and Malkin only getting one for what he did to Raffl. - MJL
That’s the problem people have....how can you be okay with V getting 2 games and just have a problem with other no calls, no suspension or minimal suspension. It goes both ways for me. I can’t and don’t respect a system with “laughable inconsistency.”

Boychuck would have no suspicion that he would be struck under these circumstances.
NO SUSPICION.
Ten year vet who scores on 2% of his shots. Six two and 227 lbs. Following the puck into the O-zone with speed.
Was he going down there to create a hub-bub? He had 14 assists so far. Or was he going to crush V?
My take, B is a big boy. Has 136 hits currently. He saw the back of V all the way up until he ignored it. He crashed awkwardly, with V's assistance, into the back of the opposing player.
NO SUSPICION.
Jeez, he must be a dope. How do he not see that he was going to sideswipe V? It was like running into a billboard.
Since it's strictly a safety issue, what safety parameter wasn't met?
V, IMO, should have avoided the hit and then went and pounded B into submission.
V knew what he was doing and was going to punish B.
V should figure out how to do this legally.
Since he should have been tossed, I figure the one game was added for the officials' lack of concern for the rule book.
I wonder how this will go for them?

I am at a loss when Simmonds hit doesn’t even get addressed by the league (was it penalized?). Guy was out several games with a concussion, and Voraceks incident gets a major + 2 games. None of it makes sense |

I agree. I’ve been saying for the last 5-6 years that the NHL is moving toward a no contact, Ice Capades type game. It’s not the game I played and loved my whole life. It will get to the point where it’s unwatchable. Time to form a new league with the players owning a significant portion of it, open stock ownership to fans, like Green Bay Packers do, and a guy like Paul Stewart heading up the officiating. He was both a player and Referee. At least that’s a start. What the NHL has done to this game is ridiculous! |

Let's get into Physics here.
You want to make the game safer? Slow it down.
Really that's the answer if you are concerned about safety.
Every injury from a hit or fall is magnified by the speed of the player, which is now dictated by the speed of the game.
Slow it down.
How? Allow more checking and fighting I know, I know, it's the opposite of what everyone is saying out there, but it is possible we are moving in the wrong direction here.
Fighting is bad PR, I'll give you that, but How many concussions are suffered through a fight? I remember very very few. Concussions for the most part come from awkward hits, and cheap shots, along with those slips and falls at higher speeds.
Hits are awkward because they have to be applied surgically now to avoid a penalty.
Cheap shots are taken more often, because there are no consequences without the fear of a fight.
Slips and Falls are always going to be there, but do more damage when objects are moving faster
Fact: Checking slows the game down
Fact: Fighting keeps players better behaved
Fact: Slower speeds means less damage when things go wrong.
Hope this wasn't too much logic...
The only other option is to have bigger ice so there is never contact. Boring... - BadCowboyDan

If they're gonna suspend Jake for this so be it. But they better suspend every other player that does it. Seems to happen multiple times a game.
And they need to get their poop together and make sense of the suspensions they're giving guys. If this gets Jake two then Malkin should've gotten 5 minimum for trying to take Raffl's head off. |

IDK. Of course, I want to appeal it on principle. Win or lose. It’s a terrible decision. Just because it is in addition to many other terrible decisions, does not make it less terrible. IDK. |

I don’t think Boychuk was coming in to blast Jake upon close examination. Look at how wide Boychuk had his legs immediately prior to the hit. He was coming in for contact no doubt but he was looking to wrap and pin Voracek to the wall imo with his positioning.
The 2 games is still ridiculous. It was handled in game as a major which I don’t agree with but I’m sure we all can live with. The 2 games is utter nonsense |

No matter what type of contact Boychuk envisioned, there is no way that he could really not have “anticipated contact of any kind” as the DOPS video states. So Jake was just supposed to be a gentleman, move aside and let him have the puck. Of course, some says Jake should have taken the hit. Apparently, according to the video, Jake could also have just calmly got the puck. Boychuk wasn’t ever anticipating contact, he was going to be a perfect gentleman and stop ever so carefully so as to avoid contact. After all, Jake was there first.

It really is all about the result of the play which is ridiculous.
Mantha drives Giroux's head into the glass. No look, because he wasn't injured. Malkin tries to decapitate a player with his stick, 1 game because it didn't connect.
Voracek 2 games for a reverse hit, because the guy ended up getting hurt.
Absolute joke. |
