Bet you forgot B Cassidy was #18 overall. He once rode Gretky off puck on a solo dash. It was an exhibition game.. great expectations turned sour. Perlini is not in this category. But let's not go crazy after the hatty. |

Really did happen
A Perlini hat trick.
Sorry not .500. Now that is a dream
More good stuff from Perlini
Is that in your dreams
Maybe it happens
Another hatty
Wouldn"t bet on it
Do you play the lottery often
But go ahead and dream
Just no playoffs
Not even in the city of payoff extortion bribes Etc al |

About the next game Wednesday vs Toronto
Chicago enters as a loose no pressure to win knows they aren't going for playoffs. Will be interesting if Kunitz keeps playing often. He gives the team a chippy forward which honestly the team should appreciate.
Also noteworthy against the high octane Leaf offense, is whether Collitin keeps Seabrook-Forsling together. The pair has two games together and performed well enough. Personally I say this is opportunity to sub for Keith in the pairing. Koekkoek probably capable to perform well with Seabrook too.
Toronto has us beat handily with strong center depth. Their achillies heel like Chicago is their less than good enough blueline corp. I do not know that one team is more tired than the other. So many games crammed together league - wide in March.
I also do not necessarily know that this game is for sure finish with a football type score. Toronto has to be mindful of better defense as they approach playoffs - is Babcock able to fine tune the defensive effort with strategy or system tweak? Maybe I am overthinking this. But Chicago has played better team defense past two games than shown the entire season. And Crawford has been good. I guess he starts again? |

Sorry, foley. The hawks are not a.500 team. - Spec41971
I checked all the major sporting sites with NHL standings none give a %win. Therefore it is a meaningless stat.
Officially as I under stand it %win = %points = total points / total possible points
OTL = OT loss is not a tie.
30-30-9: 69 games played = 138 possible pts; hawks have 69 pts
hawks %pts = 69/138 = .500...so yes they are .500 team
now lets consider the aves: 30-28-12; 70 games played = 140 possible pts; aves % pts = 72/140 = .514
yes defining OTL + RL = total loss says the hawks are 30-39 a win% = .434
but that is not how the nhl defines it
according to nhl scoring the hawks are a .500 team and foley is correct...

Even if some of those points aren’t made available until the “end of the 3rd period” clock says 00:00 (or 20:00, depending on how you count it).

What are you guys seeing as the difference defensively these past two games? Is it a new level of commitment to defense, adjustments made by JC and staff, more time in the offensive zone, just a random and short lived phenomenon, Crawford, the Stars and Yotes aren't any good, something else I haven't thought of yet, or some combination thereof? |

It will take more than a handful of games to assess the Hawks defensive play. I don't think Dallas or the Coyotes were able to skate with the Hawks and with the hawks in possession and forcing the game neither team could amount much of a sustained attack.
Tomorrow will be different and we'll see if the Hawks defense is better. Toronto can skate with or outskate the Hawks, they have two solid scoring lines and more depth in the third and fourth lines. Chicago's high end players (Toews, Kane and ADB) are better I think. Toronto's defense is marginally better than Chicago's. Goaltending is a wash if Crawford is playing. Also guys who play a timid game like Matthews, Nylander and Gardiner (if he's healthy) will feel comfortable playing wide open without any fear of physical play. All that said I can't stand the Leafs and want bragging rights at work on Thursday so I'm hoping for a big win from the good guys. |

You should be getting plenty of mileage at work out of what the Lightning did to the Leafs last night. It was great to watch. And when it got to 6-1 the paid shills on TV decided to blame it on the flu running thru the dressing room.

until proven otherwise: "just a random and short lived phenomenon"
they have done this before on two other occassions: a 3 game streak where they hold a team to 2 or less...and then went back to multiple weeks of poop show defense..

One guy here in particular is the typical annoying Leaf fan. He must have the jersey of every Leaf player. Last week on dress down Friday he was wearing a Zaitsev sweater. Anyway if the Leafs win he'll be at my desk first thing telling me all the areas the Hawks need to improve. If the Hawks win he'll be at his desk all day with his head down working his ass off. |

The Hawks had a better 60 minute effort these last two games, but some of it is just luck too. I mean, the Yotes had some backdoor chances jumping over sticks and some near misses still. The team didn't suddenly transform defensively, but the effort was better.
Crawford deserves credit for the low goals against the last two games too. 0.963 and 0.960 SV% those games. He is still the best goalie we have and had looked like his usual self. |

If he has a Martin Marincin jersey you know he needs to be rushed into psychiatric care - probably electric shock treatments would be best therapy. |

After a good stretch a few weeks ago he sat with me at lunch and decided to tell me that if I thought the Hawk core was good just wait to see how good the Leafs core will be. He said Matthews, Tavares and Marner are better than Toews, Kane and Hossa were. I just said OK and who is better than Keith, Seabrook and Hjalmersson? His answer, we have Reilly and some good prospects.
Speaking of Reilly, sounds like he pulled a Shaw and said something homophobic and it was caught on video. I guess he'll get a game ot two, be required to perform charity work or make some charitable donation.

Some Leafs fans are already claiming it wasn't what it appeared. The audio allegedly captured 2 different voices, one saying the F bomb the other yelling "rag it' to the player to kill some time. |

One Leaf I am really liking is Marner. This guy makes the Leaves go. Last playoff Boston keyed on him and I noticed last night Tampa had him in check the whole game. He has a chance to be very similar to Kane but with a much better two way game. But that said no Leaves jersey will desecrate my home. |

All of these Leaf 'stars' have a lot to prove this year at post season time.
Watching Matthews in particular this season I am not as impressed as I once was. And the going to get much tougher when he is a target for all that playoff physicality.
That's one thing nobody can ever take away from Toews or Crosby - when it mattered the most they stepped up and played the hard minutes and game. |

Going to be interesting to see how their roster plays out. If they keep all of the big guns up front, there’s not going to be much $ left to build a good Blue Line and still have depth up and down the lineup.
The Hawks were so fortunate to have so many young players playing at a high level before they were all making the big bucks. Not so sure the Leafs are going to be so lucky. |

Columbus Blue Jackets scoring sure has dried up after loading up at the TDL. Got shut out last night.
The Flyers are now gaining on those wild card spots to add even more pressure on their playoff hopes. What has gone wrong here and how much more does this motivate Panarin to leave July 1? |
