Some say the shootout already is mockery... I say send two skaters to center ice, drop gloves and go. Old time hockey eh? - riozzo
Problem there, is that we'd be forced to draw straws. Ha!

ADB's speed and skating are very under-rated. In fact his supposed weak skating was why he was available in the 2nd round for us.
He has either really improved this part of his game or the assessment was inaccurate. - 67hawks
He looks noticeably faster this season so I'll bet he worked on it over the off season. Now, if he can take Strome under his wing this off season maybe #17 can make a similar improvement.

He has as many goals this season as Kruger has combined since 2014. - BINGO!
10? Maybe. Not really his role, though. At least with the Hawks. Hard pass on him. |

I would prefer all game to be 3 points. 3 for regulation win and then split 2 for OT or SO win and 1 for OT or SO loss. Don’t agree with your suggestion of 0 points for a SO....think that makes a mockery of the game and eliminates competition from the equation. - Spec41971
They would get 2 points for win in regulation or OT. 1 point for a tie after OT. No points for whatever happens in the shootout (which is a mockery of the game). |

I also think he does a fantastic job retrieving and holding onto pucks when he is on the power play. Seems to not panic under any situation and usually makes the right play. |

He was never slow. I watched him quite a bit and never thought his skating was a real concern. He is moving better which is probably due to off-season workouts.
Strome's speed is okay once he gets going. He needs to work on his short area burst.
Hopefully some improvement come from a good off-season program.

While I don't think either Kahun or Sikura is devoid of physical engagement, I think Sikura actually does engage physically more than what he gets credit for (or no credit for). He fore checks, battles along the boards, and takes a hit to make a play.
An example from last night's game where he wasn't shy to play the body was at the end of the game with about 5-6 minutes left. Sikura and Ekman-Larsson both pursued the puck in the Hawks O zone. Sikura checked him along the boards to separate himself enough to be closest to the puck. Even though Sikura didn't necessarily win the puck back, he at least rubbed off who he was battling against so at least was a wash rather than a loss. - AEL_Fox
Sikura goes to the traffic areas , too. It seems when you say you like guy it means you think he is going to be a star. He was a 6th round pick. If he can become useful, its a win. Its also his first year of pro hockey. Last year at this time he was playing NCAA hockey. He needs to get stronger for sure. That pass he made to spring Toews vg. |

Goalies, hell! Line up the fans. We draw reasonably well on the road. |

Hahaha, hopefully he isn't like Stalberg (Blue Jackets) and scores a lot on the Yotes only - BetweenTheDots
Hopefully he just keeps working out there. He does that and goals will come. |

Elbows, what's the skinny on Highmore? Don't know much regarding his particulars. He hasn't racked up much time with Hawks due in part, to injury. Just recall his skating ability to be top notch. Any way he makes the team coming out of camp next year? Cement hands, what?

I wish more posters thought this way. I want to see effort and playing the right way rather than judging a player purely on production. I found it sad that a number of Hawk fans judged Toews solely on goals and assists and not on his full game. I want to see Perlini score but I really want to see him doing all the right things with and without the puck and trying new challenges like penalty killing. If he plays right and plays hard his points will come. - paulr
Effort was why I was not keen on bringing him. All he has to do is give an honest effort every shift. With his speed and shot, he will get his scoring chances. Needs to get stronger on his skates and utilize his size. Kruger is tougher along the wall than Perlini is currently. |

An idea for a rule change would be to award assists on a breakout pass like that if the guy scores on the penalty shot. If Toews didn't get hacked and scored the goal Sikura would have got the assist.

IMO, he can definitely play a 4th line shutdown role. He skates well. Seems to have the hockey IQ to read the game well. He isn't big but he will go to the tough areas.
When the Piggies made their PO run last season, it was him, Kampf and Edjsell scoring a lot of big goals. Edjsell was getting the goals but Kampf and Highmore were doing all the work. Those two were around the net constantly.
He deserves a shot to see if he can find a role in the NHL Probably would have if he didn't most of this season with a shoulder injury. |

I like that idea. I would add that the penalty that caused the penalty shot gets enforced whether or not the shooter scores.
To make it really exciting, have all the players on the ice with the puck immediately in play if the shooter doesn’t score and the goalie can’t control the rebound.

Trust me. I want him to do well. The goals were nice. I like the way he has played the last 4 games. Previously, he was just gliding all over the ice. He started moving his feet 4-5 games ago and good things started happening for him.

That pass was so good. Through traffic. Right in stride and on the tape. It had some mustard on it too.
Even on Saad's goal he made a really smart play. He read where Toews was going, he cut to the middle of the ice and left that lane wide open for Toews.

JC likes him. I will add that. He and Kampf were fun to watch together. They pressure the puck all over the ice.
Can he translate that to the NHL is the question. |
