Ya, the boys need to drive this failure a but harder to improve our chances, lol.
Actually, I wish they would collectively get their heads out of their asses and start playing well.
I'm getting really sick of the losing and looking like a junior a team. - IonSabres

How high up will pick 10 and 18 get us?
Top 5? - homiedclown
Not much difference between picking 5th and 10th

I think this years top 10 is much better then 2016. Hughes/Kakko could even be better then Matthews/Laine making it a clean sweep - Pegullaville

Tough to say. Depends on the team. I’m hoping we fall far enough that we pick 6-8 and keep the Blues pick out right (that even being if they pick top 20). |

Should of drafted chiqourin like we were supposed to in the first place Jost, Sergachev, McAvoy, Kunin were all drafted after Nylander and are making an impact. M. Tkchuck and Keller went in the two picks before nylander. Hey for all we know Nylander can figure it or at least be moved in a trade to get us a top 6 forward it will still be all well. - Pegullaville
I don't want to really re-litigate the whole "well, we'll just draft a stud!" bit. |

So it IS Nylands fault.

Golfing two weeks later helps this team more then a top 7 selection ? It’s ok you’ll see the light one day and agree with me. I have faith. |

Do the Blues get medals for first round playoff exits ? Maybe ROR might see a 2nd round or two. Doug Armstrong, king of mediocrity. At least they see playoff hockey though. The cup drought lives on though. Maybe a couple top 5 selections will help. |

Anthony Barr to the Jets. Here we go. Add him to the list of Jets that can’t stand getting roasted by Josh Allen. F that team. I hate those losers. Dolphins of the 90’s.
Btw, Ross Tucker killed it in his interview with Bulldog today. |

Would you consider the possibility that the reason this team is so mentally fragile is because they have been told for years that they arent good enough to win? And when the team loses year after year after year after year do you think that might become a self fulfilling prophecy.
At some point we have to recognize that the damage from managements lack of faith in its current players is doing more damage to those players than the benefit they will gain by an pick that’s 10 places higher than they would have if management showed them the confidence of supporting them and letting them compete. |

I agree:
Larsson
Girgs
Risto
McCabe
Maybe even sam and john jack to some degree.
Failure is ok , with the Sabres.

Sheary has won two cups, Sobotka, Hutton, have a decades worth of playoff experience between them along with a decade between Pominville and Berglund (and he quit on us). Hunwick was apart of a cup team. Yet we are picking top 10. Why ? Lack of talent. Picking top 5 and replacing those aforementioned has beens with veteran talent who can play is what this team needs. Eichel and his 1.14 PPG isn’t why we are here. Skinner and his 36 goals aren’t why we are picking top 10. Reinhart and his 58 points aren’t the problem. The problem is our vets suck, our goaltending sucks, and Mittelstadt and Dahlin aren’t 21 yet. We need more talent. |

Here's what this post does: it mentions the playoff experience of a lot of non-core guys. Then it recognizes that we have to acquire better supporting help, but inaccurately suggests the only way to get there is picking Top 5.
There are better ways to do this than losing intentionally and destroying the confidence of the core. Losing intentionally and destroying the confidence of the core MIGHT acquire us one talented contributor who MIGHT be able to contribute in the next year or two.
Identifying meaningful IMMEDIATE contributors, and acquiring them through trading picks and prospects, provides greater benefit to the team, and involves less risk of irreparable harm to the psyche of the core.
And, don't tell us that it's impossible to identify meaningful immediate contributors and acquire them with picks/prospects. Because Skinner and Montour prove it can be done twice in the same year.
EDIT: and if mittlestat and Dahlin have to turn 21 before they can contribute, doesn't that mean that the new guy has to be 21 also???? so now we're talking about help that won't even show up for 3 more years, by which time our core will be a group of burned out husks who need to be replaced altogether, so we will need to tank for a new core.

All those guys u described are role players that aren’t part of “THE CORE”
The longer our young talent continues to lose for,
the harder it’s gonna get for them to figure out how to win
Especially consistently against good teams
We don’t wanna be Edmonton
Takes more than just picking Top10

Pick top 5 and add a couple FA’s in the offseason for short term help. Nyquist, Johansson, Donskoi, Fillipula, zuccarello, Hayes, Eberle, simmonds, Dzingel. Snag 2 of the aforementioned. Move Risto for forward help or keep him and hope he continues to develop better puck handling tendencies with less minutes and more insulation. Dahlin and Mittelstadt are another year older and we have another young game changer on our hands instead of getting blown out 6-1 by the lightning. |

Our younger players are just fine. Eichel hasn’t forgotten how to win because he’s forced to carry an entire team on his back. If anything he might be better for it once he has a team around him. |

You made some good points with the influx of nhl playoff experience.
Sheary
Hunwick
Pommer
Problem is some of the most important players are young and inexperienced.
That's why making the playoffs and losing has some upside.
Should help with nervousness in the future.
Sure it costs us a few spots in the draft.... |

I wonder if Patty Kane, Johnathen Toews, Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty have forgotten how to win since they are going on their 2nd year of missing the playoffs or is it because their respective supporting casts are hot garbage ? P.Kane is having the best regular season of his whole career. |
