Just go back to whining about Matthews,
ok? - jdfitz77
Wallow in mediocrity. Boo Eichel and Dahlin every time they touch the puck. You shouldn’t even pretend to be excited either on draft day when we add another young stud and the experts pump our tires talking about how Botts patience is assembling a top young core is the envy of the league and how we are set up for long term success. Short term above all though right ? Future soon becomes the present. 2010-2011 means nothing today does it ? But we made the playoffs no ? Championship rings matter. |

Putting words in my mouth again
I never said we “wallow in mediocrity”
And YOU are the one bringing up ‘10-‘11...
no one else is
YOU are the one that said we wouldn’t be able to pull off a “Montour” type trade when that’s what most of us wanted
YOU are the one who thinks we need to lose on purpose to get good talent
YOU are the one cheering for his teams epic fall to the 8th pick
And frankly, that’s a joke
Especially since you kept saying not to trade the StL or SJ pick bc we could get a really good player in the 20s
Well if we can do that...
then we also could at 12 or 18 or wherever?
It’s ok though
U cheer for us to lose, and I’ll cheer for my team to win
But really...
just spend more time on the Leafs board talking sh!t about Matthews |

We can get a good player with the Blues pick in the 18-20 range. However if we are so close to picking top 6 or 7 in the draft what good is it to win and pick 12th ? There is a drop off after 10, another drop off after 20. Gems can be found anywhere in the draft but I’ll take my chances drafting as high as possible in a lost season. I called the wheels falling off the bus before anyone else and I was very optimistic coming into the season about us contending for the 2nd wildcard spot. Cheer for wins, just don’t say me cheering for losses is indicative of being a bad fan when in reality the guy we draft could very well be the guy that makes us a contender when it actually matters. |

Myers played his rookie season on a 100 point team that won the Northeast. What do you think he would've gotten on this team? What do you think Dahlin would have gotten on that team? - JetpackJesus
Uhh, Derek Roy led that team in scoring. He had 69 points. |

It’s like Pittsburgh and Chicago weren’t terrible for a stretch of time in the early 2000’s or something. This fan base would rather settle for playoff appearances then a cup ring I guess. Buffalo has the 8th most successful regular season record of all time, several playoff appearances, but how many rings ? The fact this fan base can’t remain patient for one or two more losing seasons in order to put together a team like the ones that made it to the ECF those couple times in the 2000’s are just as toxic as the supposed “losing core”. I can’t seem to find the printed logo Sabre t-shirts that say playoff finalists 2009-2010 or 2010-2011. I really miss those first round knockouts to the Bruins and Flyers. We haven’t fielded a team since 2006/2007, I believe that tanking gives us a roster reminiscent of that. Eichel, Dahlin, Reinhart, Mittelstadt, and another high end pick this year is the start of something great. - Pegullaville
pegullaville- good post
But,
Seriously the 8 years of losing and going to the games:
for the team to continue to not "go all out" . I dont remember anyone who even thought about tanking until mceichel. I didnt at least.
I don't remember the 87 Sabres losing for sneaky pete Turgeon ?
This franchise was always respectable. Aside from the drury/ briere mess up

2008-2013 was just as much a waste of time since Darcy begun the teardown. This team hasn’t been relevant since the day we lost Drury and Briere. By losing we have assembled a young core. We just need to surround the young core with better vets and that can be done through FA and another impact trade. Maybe it’s Risto. Maybe it’s McCabe + Nylander. Maybe it is moving the Blues/SJS first + in the offseason if the right player comes along. However nobody is trading you a Eichel, Dahlin, Mittelstadt (as of right now) and I don’t see the Sabres giving up Reinhart for at least a couple more years unless the offer blows our socks off. There are better times ahead and whether you supported the years of losing or not this team will be relevant again and hopefully for a long time. I think another top 10 pick is the last piece of the puzzle in regards to young star quality talent. The rest is up to Botts to surround them with good vets. |

It is you being a bad fan
You literally just said above that we can get a good player in the 18-20 range
Just bc u think there’s a drop off at 10,
doesn’t make it so!
I guarantee there will be players picked in the teens who have a better career than those picked in the top10...
it happens every year
It’s one thing to cheer for a drop in the standings to get a guy like McEichel or Dahlin...
but what you’re doing is entirely different
We aren’t dropping to a point to get Hughes or Kakko
Yeah dude...
you cheering for losses in this situation does make u a bad fan
It really does

4- Bennett
5- Dal Colle

You’re really so POSITIVE that Dach (for example) is gonna be better than Newhook?
Or that Turcotte will be better than Suzuki?
Or that someone else in the teens,
like possibly Kailyev, can’t be a great player?
It’s not that your shrugging your shoulders when we lose, saying “at least we will get a better pick”
You are actively cheering for us to lose based on you thinking the 8th pick will be a game changer, but the 12th pick won’t be
What do you think Eichel or Dahlin would say to you if u told them u were cheering for us to lose?
You think they’d give u an autograph dedicated to what a great fan you are?
I sure freaking doubt it dude |

I left the tank in garage after the disastrous McEichel season. I felt dirty hoping they would lose their games at the end of that season. It's the only time I have cheered against the Sabres. At some point, they need to learn to win. Might as well start tomorrow against Dallas. Otherwise we might be the Chicago Cubs pre 2016, and not win in my entire lifetime!

Calling someone a “bad fan” is looney.
(I know you haven’t called anyone a bad fan. None of this relates to you - but your post is a safe place to quote.)
But there’s room for disagreement over the right way to build AND MAINTAIN talent. |

Well cheering for your team to lose,
certainly doesn’t make you a “good fan”
This isn’t a “McEichel” or “Dahlin” type situation
It’s more like a Dal Colle vs Larkin type situation,
where we could still pick the wrong guy even if we have the better draft position where we can choose a guy in a perceived better tier of prospects
Of course there’s a better chance that picking in the Top10 gives u a better shot at a good player than if we were picking just outside the Top10
But it’s far- very far- from a sure thing
It’s not like i don’t get where he’s coming from...
But we aren’t getting a “Dahlin” type prospect that should justify cheering for your team to lose
We’re talking about the drop off from 8 to 12 for goodness sake- not 8 to 58

Well you 2 can both cheer when Dallas scores tomorrow night
Have fun with that
This is not an obvious McEichel or Dahlin situation
It’s a Krebs, or Turcotte, or Cousins, or etc etc etc player who we could pick (idk, 6th?) instead of basically getting a player in the same talent range a handful of picks later
I’ll be over here rooting for my team
Not against them - jdfitz77
To be clear,
I'll ROOT for them to WIN, as I have except for the 2 years of Reinhart and Eichel years since October of 1971. I WILL see the benefit if they lose as well...since I am not on the ice playing, thank you.
I won't chide other posters who also see the benefit of draft 7 or 8 instead of 13th.
But you be you and chide others for the same thing you did during the McEichel year, and even last year I am sure...'cause this year it is so much different.

We can fall as far as 6. Also how do you know that we don’t win the lottery this year and do end up selecting in the top 3 ? Or that we don’t select one of the Centreman at 6 that gives us a triple headed monster down the middle ? I’ve stated multiple times that we can find talent outside of the top 10, but I’m really intrigued by the impact that Turcotte/Zegras/Boldy can have on this team moving forward and if that makes me a bad fan then so be it.
The Sabres play on a Saturday really showed how they intrigued they are about the rest of the season.... The playoff dream is dead, they are just collecting a paycheck now. I don’t think selecting 6th or 12th make a difference to them. |

Frank Gore info.. probably the reason he signed here.
The 35-year-old will join 30-year-old LeSean McCoy in forming what would be the NFL’s oldest — and most historically productive — running back tandem.
Gore’s 14,748 yards rushing ranks fourth on the NFL’s career list, while McCoy is 25th with 10,606 yards rushing.
The two are close friends, share the same agent and have spent previous offseasons working out together.
Gore is also in line to have another connection in Buffalo, after the University at Buffalo extended an offer to his son, Frank Jr., to play for the Mid-American Conference school last month.

3 nfl analysts ranked Gore in their top 5 day 1 signings
had his best yard per carry in a while last season
