I’ve been saying it for a while now....I was pro Hughes till the WJHC then I jumped ship and never looked back....I just hoped at the time we got #2 that way the Oilers possibly couldn’t screw it up

Not an unreasonable stance, I don't think. He's currently outproducing both Laine (even in goals) and Kotkaniemi while also showing very well on the big stage of the WJC. It seems like a similar gap as in 2011; probably higher level players than Nuge and Landeskog but it ends in a similar way with the C edging out the winger despite the W perhaps being more "ready".

When we miss the playoffs by 1 point, and then win the lottery since that's our true game, I still say either trade down to 2 and gain an asset, or just draft Kakko.

I think a lot of the mainstream guys seem to underestimate how much tougher competition in Liiga is compared to the USHL, especially on the USNTDP which is (frank)ing stacked.

Svechnikov was putting up well over a point per game in the USHL as a 16 year old for (frank)s sake.

On the note of the Finnish League, keep your eyes on Ville Heinola. I've had my eyes on him since early in the year and started watching him at the WJC and he's been killing it. He's outproduced Heiskanen while excelling in the same kind of minutes that brought Miro praise back in his draft year. Slated for the late 1st, early 2nd and is absolutely a target I'd be after.

Strong opinions. I don't know that I've seen enough of him to say for sure but, while I do support Cs over Ws and size has become less of a factor over time, I have some apprehensions surrounding what I have seen and read. Most notably is perhaps his role in one of the deepest u-18 US NTDP draft classes in history. Seems to be along the lines of a Keller.
