i get delia is young and is not a finished product...not as technically sound as craw...
but he faced 30 (frank)'n shots in the 3rd period coming from all over the ice and every direction...the hawks were slow to every puck and puck battle
he got bailed by a couple post hits but he made 3-4 saves in the final 90 seconds that saved this team from another major implode loss...
delia competes and never gives up on a puck...hell on the 3rd goal he made 2 great saves before it got poked in - bogiedoc
Delia faced 30 shots because he’s a rebound machine. He reminds me of one of those pitching machines, only with him you put pucks in and you have no idea where the puck’s coming out. You just have to be ready to swat it in or swat it away depending which team you’re on.

I bet if Crow had stayed in it would have been a lot fewer shots. Why? Because Delia does not have the rebound control that Crawford does. Instead of the Leafs getting extended offensive zone time, Craw would have been freezing the puck when Delia couldn't, where he was just giving it right back to the leafs, and they would then get another 2-3 shots off.
I'm not saying Delia is terrible, but he needs to work on that rebound control. |

Be careful not to take too much stock in the last 35 games. Yes they are playing better, yes they are winning more games but they are playing the wrong way if they want to be Stanley cup contenders and not regular season pretenders. Playing an all out run and gun game without being somewhat competant in your own zone may get lots of regular season points but it's a sure way of ensuring an early exit in the playoffs. Last night emphasized just how bad this team plays defense. That poopshow in the third period was similar to a game earlier against Tampa. Yes I love the improvement in offense and overall intensity of the team but unless they have the personell and are taught how to play some kind of defensive system there is no chance this team can compete for the cup. - paulr
I also don't want to dismiss that 35 game sample. On the focus on defense, I agree. But to say the team hasn't improved is inaccurate, imo. Are they a Cup contender yet? Nope. But improved over last year and the start of this year? Yes, sir. |

Crow's case of the trots - not to be confused with the coach of the Isles - must be better. |

Better than in the back of the net. Good though he got recalled so he can work on his game, can't improve your game much while sitting behind Corey, plus this also eliminates any concussion speculation
How long did Marner lay on him had to be between 5 and 10 seconds, then Delia gets up like WTF where's the interference penalty |

So who from the leafs goes and frees up money for marner and Kappen? what would you trade for either nylander or Kappan. the hawks have allot of what the leafs need. biggest need is RD for them. We have Seabs, Murph, Joki, boquist and Mitchell. I wonder. Zaitsev and kappan for Murphy and Mitchell. |

I would offer sheet him for $4 mil. which means we give up a 2nd. Zaitsev is horrible, and is like signed forever at over $4 million.

My guess is we would not offer sheet him. that is not really how stan does things IMO has a good relationship with leafs as well. they leafs will deal someone before the offer sheet would happen IMO. kind of like SAAD.

I agree and the only thing more impressive than the improvement in their play is the improvment in their effort and intensity. |

Most of the big Western European Airlines are good. British Airways, Air France, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, KLM etc. Quantas. General rule of thumb is to stick with major airlines from first world countries. - Ogilthorpe2

Agreed. One 30 second shift by Dalstrom late in the third had me pulling my hair out.....and I have been bald for over 20 years already!!!! |

Not only that, he's terrible at sealing off the near post when the puck is outside and below the dot. Why all/most of these goalies today are on their knees with the puck in the corner or behind the net is just(imho)mind boggling. I see so many open corners up high when they do that it's not even funny. The area between their arm and the top of their knee pad is often questionable then as well. Where's the coaching in those instances. My kid learned that stuff in PeeWee's 20 years ago. Not only that, but if your on your skates, it's a lot easier to push off if/when needed. I just don't get it why I see what I see so much. |

no question the leafs turned it up a few notches in the third...and they had plenty of reserve because they were lazy and careless for the first 2 periods...
the hawks couldn't find the empty net, couldn't get the puck and when they did they made terrible clearing decisions: seab, keith, kruger to name a few...
almost blew a 5 goal...gotta admit these games are awfully entertaining and unpredictable...
esp with these two teams: 2 games = 22 goals.... - bogiedoc
Remember that game in 2009 I think...maybe 2010. Just when the team was making a turn toward being a CHAMPION. They were down 0-5 to Calgary, I believe?? And they stormed back to win 6-5.
That set the table for many comebacks the next several years...within a game, and within a playoff series. That ONE game gave the young Toews, Kane and company the belief that they were NEVER out. Later it came though in the playoffs against Nashville, who had them beat until Kane score late when Hossa serving a 5 minute major, then in OT...Hossa himself wins it. Then....on we go to a Cup win. Fast forward anothe couple of years...down 3-1 in a playoff series to Red Wings. We were toast, except....we weren't....cuz Kane and Toews and company KNEW we could comeback. Short story...we did....and went on to another Cup.
Hopefully the lesson of ALMOST blowing a 5 goal lead will also serve as a lesson....this time for Strome, D-Cat and company. And the next time they are up 5-0 and it becomes 5-1 and 5-2, they KNOW how to turn it up and not allow it to get close. They learn to widen the lead. Great part is, hopefully lesson learned....AND we salvaged 2 points in the process. |

Bob, I agree with you, this inverted vee that seems to be the in thing on short side shots is being negated by the players now shooting at the goalies ears from that area of the ice as opposed to at the feet hoping for a rebound. As far as pushing off, the new thing is while on your knees, pushing with your legs off the post, that is how the net got dislodged behind Delia.

Correct. I just think maneuverability would be much better if they were still on their skates, and not their knees, in that situation. Cuz what's the 1st thing they do if the puck pops back out to the top of the circles? They're on their feet. |

Big leads have dissipated quite a bit this year, most recently Columbus was beating Boston 5-1 in the second, by the end of the second it was 5-4 before Columbus ended up winning 7-4. |
