I don't disagree, as soon as Q was let go Bowman is under the microscope. What i admire about this org is they are methodical in what they do and they are doing it in the right order.
I give Bowman a pass on 2016 and 17 because he thought he was a piece or 2 away from the SC and because he gave up the 1st round picks it set the franchise back 2 years.
So my clock started on Bowman in 2018, because trading picks away and contending for a cup is different than drafting, nurturing and filling a ton of holes on the roster.
If he didn't sign Panarin we wouldn't of wasted those 2 years, but at the same time he's a great offensive machine against bad teams and it was a great get. - BetweenTheDots
That's for sure. Hope it works out. Next year must be much better than the roller coaster of '18-19

It would take a package I qould think depending on the Dman.
Saad, Anisimov, Kahun - I coild see at forward
Gustafsson, Murphy - of significance on the backend
... then the most appeing piece would be one of the Hawks top defensive prospects in Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell or maybe Jokiharju. - Justin Lowe
Trouba isn't worth that much. Plus, add in 8Mish in cap space? Hard pass for me. |

Would like to see Perlini get re-signed. - z1990z
I think you will see that. He will sign a 1 or 2 year deal for a reasonable amount (approx. $1.5M) this summer. |

I hope someone keeps a watch on Ruutta post Blackhawks. Anytime they play with confidance or without always looking over your shoulder and bracing fir a hit.......is playing on a better team with a semblance ifvdefense and a handfulnof teammates who have your back......can lead to re- birth. To some extent Rutta may experience this in Florida. - jhawk59
He’s primarily been in the AHL since the trade. But he’s played three games since he’s been called back up played 9:11 1st game, 16:52 with two assists the 2nd game and 14:21 the third. |

Perlini gets a show me deal. Yes, he has played well for the last 5 games but his previous 20 were terrible. He also was benched. A lot. 2 years/ 1.5M AAV is all I would offer. Consistent effort has been a knock on him. |

Honestly my biggest issue with him is durability |

Unless Strome takes 5 over 4 or something like that this summer he'll be expensive if he keeps racking up points. |

Regarding Trouba. He has played one full season in his career. His zone splits are pretty even. He breaks even in the shots department. Puts up about 30 points/yr. Yeah, points aren't the main thing for d-men but they are a factor in salary.
This is not to say I don't like the player because I do. My perspective is does he really move the needle enough to warrant the assets? IDK but I am leaning toward no.
So for all the defensive prowess he supposedly would bring, some of the metrics don't show that. |

That is an issue for sure. Just a glance of some of the metrics don't really move the needle for me. At least not enough to pay the price for him. Is he really that much better than Murphy that he would be worth twice the cap space?
Like I said in a previous post, I like Trouba but am trying to look at it objectively. |

hawks are giving up a legit 22 year old 35-40 goal guy for a top 4 dman...as much as they need that...thats a nutzo price to pay... - bogiedoc
Agreed. That's Taylor Hall for Adam Larson nutzo, maybe worse. You do NOT trade Alex Debrincat for a number 3 or 4. Haven't we learned that from the DUMB Panarin trade yet ?
Now if you're talking a true number 1 dman, then listen.....

Yup and then Storme if he keeps playing the way he has. This is why there will be no big FA signing this year despite the cap space available. I see maybe a middle of the road vetern D signing if can get on short term contract plus maybe a bottom six forward - HamiltonHawk
Thinking similar. Anything is possible but realistically it may be more feasible pursuing at least one 2nd pair defender (another one if Murphy is moved or Jokiharju is not deemed ready) and 1-2 top 9 forwards. Getting a 1st pair blueliner and/or an elite top 6 winger may be too rich for the Hawks blood.
This also doesn't consider possibly another bottom 6 player to play with Caggiula and Kampf on the 4th line. Don't know what the advanced stats say about him, but I do like how Motte has improved as a reliable grinder and PKer. He's an RFA this summer.
Hayden is of course an option. Maybe Kruger on a cheap $1M deal. |

The general thing to consider is trading to fill one hole but creating a new one. I know it's likely more complex than that, but I say a solid no to trading the Hawks top goal scorer who is going to get better for a top defenseman.
Does anyone see 50 goals in the future for DeBrincat? |

It’s great to see Perlini starting putting things together like this. I’d expect a short term deal this summer, 1-2 years. |

Subtracting Murphy wouldn’t be good for defense. I’d like Stan to find a way to add to the defense without moving #5. |

Someone mentioned it in an earlier post about defenseman like Jakob Chycrun,if the Hawks draft somewhere between 11 and 16, would you dangle that first pic out of the coyotes for that kid? And would that be enough? |

We're not getting Trouba he will cost to much in salary and assets. I'll be shocked if we get a player of his age and quality on the back end. - BetweenTheDots
If you do give up the quality assets as suggested by some and then have Trouba eat up $8M dollars of your Cap space leaving little to add another UFA, are you really ahead of where you are now? |

Exactly.
The whole Saad for a top 4 dman conversation, I wouldn't do it. He's a great pk'er, drives to the net and parks there, and fights along the boards (and has been doing so consistently.) He's been chipping in offensively, bounce back in comparison to last season.
I know defense is a big hole for the team, but I'd rather wait and see how these young guys develop and fill in with minor plug players. Sorry if this conversation has already been discussed. I have not reread. |

I wonder if Edmonton would be willing to part with Larsson? At least to rid themselves of the Hall/Larsson trade trauma.
Larsson could be a good pickup, maybe Vatanen from N.J. |

No way on DeBrincat for just a top 4 dman. Part of a deal for a clear #1 or #2 , but if they traded him for a guy that isn't top pair then it's a bad deal. - breadbag
My thoughts too. If DeBrincat is used in a deal it has to be for a young legit #1 d-man - something along the lines of the CLB/NSH trade a couple years ago that swapped Johansen and Seth Jones.
And even then I would be hesitant to trade DCat. He's going to hit 40 goals as a 21 year which means he is just entering his prime years. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that he scores 50+ in the next few years. Yes, he's a winger and Johansen is a center but at this point I wouldn't give up DCat for Johansen straight up so if the Johansen/Jones trade was considered a fair trade for both teams - then doesn't that mean DCat is a more valuable player than Seth Jones who is a young legit #1 center? |

I'd say it's possible more so than probable. He's hitting 40 as a 21 year old and usually a player's prime years are in the 22-25 range so it's very likely Cat will get stronger and his game will improve. Whether or not he gets the puck luck needed for 50 of his shots to go in remains to be seen but he is one of only a few players capable of doing it. |

That's my thinking exactly. Let's give JC a summer, i know i said this last year, let the forwards get a grip of JCs expectations.
Honestly in the past few games Gusto has surprised me at times with his defensive play can he get more consistent maybe.
Realistically if they just get better at the PK they will be a better team next year than this year
If we are where we are right now no point in doing damage to the future of this team by forcing a trade.
I'll go back to the Tavares deal great player but that gm (frank)ed that team with signing him

I see Strome on a bridge deal first. But that's just me. - Justin Lowe
Not gonna happen. With Strome or ADB.
Any agent worth his salt would wait until the last minute at the end of both of their current contracts, get another year of scoring 50-60+ points each playing together and ring up the max deals.
Honestly, the Hawks should wait until then as well to see if both guys wash, rinse, repeat and are the real deal (see: Schmaltz, Nick) |

I don't necessarily have concerns that what we've seen from Strome is not sustainable and therefore it's a good idea to wait to sign him until he shows it again next season - but there is a little bit of that - whereas, I don't have any doubt about DeBrincat. Some players take their foot off the gas after getting a big payday but I don't get the sense that that is in Cat's makeup at all. He seems like the type of player that loves to play and would play his best regardless what he is getting paid. But - he's not stupid - he will expect to get paid what the market says he's worth so the sooner Stan can get him signed the more advantageous for the Hawks. |

I get where you're coming from but at the same time Strome did play for the Yotes and struggled there. He may be so happy to be in Chicago along side his former team mate and living in the Chicago area that if he thinks a deal is fair he signs it |
