Not to bring this to the Canes, but consider that the team traded away Jeff Skinner, Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin this summer and now have as many points this year as they finished the season with last year.
A lot of that is on the attitude from the top down in the organization. From the owner on down the message has been that "This isn't good enough" and they've pushed hard to make sure everybody bought in. If you didn't, you got fired, waived, traded, whatever. It applies to management, marketing, ticket sales, the training staff, everybody.
You're either being held accountable by Tom Dundon or by Rod Brind'amour/Justin Williams.
Having everybody in the organization pointed to a singular goal and busting their ass to do it has paid huge dividends, even though you can make a pretty good argument that this team isn't as talented as last years' was.
For the Sabres, there's gotta be more of a push from the top down to get everybody on the same page. From an outsiders' perspective It just seems like there are too many people who are too willing to accept that the team isn't very good and it's not their fault. - BINGO!
You mean finally getting saves from goaltenders, and finally shooting at a decent %, right? |

Nah.
That's part of it, but it runs deeper than that. Every part of the organization is running better than it has in at least a decade. |

Being shut out in 3 consecutive games is more than the players, playing the game.
It is an indictment of those behind the bench.
It's not working.
And when it's not working, you change course from what isn't working. |

I always get a kick for how far people will stretch to find off-ice reasons for winning or losing.

Some tank-inclined folks here insist that this season is exactly what JB had in mind all along. I hope it’s not, but if it was, at least it was a success. If it wasn’t, it was a massive failure and miscalculation.
“We were never supposed to be good this year” is something I’ve heard repeated. |

My thoughts :
Sure, fire Housley. Fire Botts as well though...this is his team, and the lack of talent is on him. No coach brought in at this point, or even before next season would do any better with this collection of crap. We have ONE GUY, that's it.

as always, my apologies for not back reading....so if Im just giving an identical viewpoint, Im sorry.
A month ago, I wasn't so sure, but now I am in agreement. They have to fire Housley. They have to. Id bet good mo9ney that the only reason he hasn't been fired yet is JB is thinking, "Mike Schopp, Jeremy White and Hockeybuzz isn't telling ME how to do my job..I CALL THE SHOTS AROUND HERE". His only reason for not firing him yet is to avoid looking like "boy...the general public is much better at my job than I am". He knows the coach has to go.
at least how I see it... - RippedFuel
I think he probably sees how useless the assistants are too, so there's no one to promote from within this late in the season especially with Rochester going gangbusters. If Rochester sucked too then maybe they'd give Taylor a short look to see what he's got, but it's not really a fair way to do it, it would take a few weeks just for team and coach to get used to each other, and then the season's over. |

There's nothing to say that any of those coaches have to be good at their jobs either though. Any one of us bumholes "could of" won a Cup with Crosby, Malkin, Letang and sane Fleury. |

I think this is a reasonable post.
Of course we all wanted the Sabres to be good, and were fooled by the 10 game win streak.
We did trade kane for a 1st
We traded our 2c for picks and players
We have a rookie goalie
We have a journeyman goalie
We have an 18 year old defenseman
We still are paying:
matt moulson
Pommer
Bogo
Risto
5 plus million
2nd year coach after coaching us to 31st place last year
What were expectations again?
Be exciting and show progress |

All season, the one guy has been Jack. You saw the last two games without him. Nothing happens offensively when he's out of the lineup. No threats whatsoever. Dahlin is talented but to me, hasn't taken over one game all year, and I expected more out of the consensus # 1 overall. I bought into the hype. Yes, I know he's only 18 and he will be GREAT, but right now, we're a one man team. We need more talent brought in.
Oh by the way, we did have a second guy, but our awful GM traded him to St Louis for their three worst players and a # 1 pick, for no reason. |

It would seem “exciting” and “progress” are both debatable descriptors for the 2018-19 Buffalo Sabres. |

I just wish that JB had to declare his tank intentions before the start of a season, so fans can more clearly gauge success. Year after year of basement dwelling finishes followed by fans’ applauding and cheering the results gets to be a little grating. |

I went to Tampa for the Sabres to break there all time 10 consecutive game winning streak.
That was exciting.
We were exciting until the past month.
Eichels a point a game plus guy.
Progress was being made.
We have a solid core of players, first time in 12 years
That's progress

I don't have anything positive to say. 13 wins since the 10 game winning streak is the epitome of a collapse. If Botts doesn't fire you know who the day after the season ends, they'll lose some fans. Therein lies the issue for Pegula and company. Or maybe all they care about is the Bills and rubbing noses with the NFL elite.
The one positive thing is actually down the thruway.
Cheers! Off to Scottsdale for a golf trip. Go Amerks! |

Broncos are gonna add Callahan and have the best top 3 DB trio in the league again. Fangio gonna bring that 2015 defense back. We’re coming baby. |

Turcotte, Boldy, Newhook. In that order. However Newhook is rising up draft boards and I would not be surprised in the least if he is a top 10 pick on draft day. |

We could end up with our choice of any of them. Anyone else you’d target at the, let’s call it 8 spot? |
