All season, the one guy has been Jack. You saw the last two games without him. Nothing happens offensively when he's out of the lineup. No threats whatsoever. Dahlin is talented but to me, hasn't taken over one game all year, and I expected more out of the consensus # 1 overall. I bought into the hype. Yes, I know he's only 18 and he will be GREAT, but right now, we're a one man team. We need more talent brought in.

Oh by the way, we did have a second guy, but our awful GM traded him to St Louis for their three worst players and a # 1 pick, for no reason.

- kritter65

They did score 10 goals in the 3 games he missed in January and went 2-1.

the worst part of the last 15 games

the sabres still had a chance to put themselves in position to compete for the last playoff spot

and they showed no effort
no heart
no grit
no desire to try to get to the post season

Some tank-inclined folks here insist that this season is exactly what JB had in mind all along. I hope it’s not, but if it was, at least it was a success. If it wasn’t, it was a massive failure and miscalculation.

“We were never supposed to be good this year” is something I’ve heard repeated.

- PrinceChill

I don't think I've seen anyone claim that this was always intended as a tank year. I think JB's plan was to have this be a stepping stone year with the Sabres competing as a bubble play-off team. I think until January or so you could say that's exactly what we had. I now consider the last couple months as absolute setbacks, not in JB's plan at all. From that perspective this year is now a failure. I'm not ready to blame JB for that yet, but I have some serious questions about team leadership and coaching.

(frank) em all.....sick of rooting for a loser (frank)ing team my whole life. Stuck with them through thick and thin, but the thin extremely outweighs the thick....Go Vegas..

I'd be the biggest Richard in that room right about now.... If that's what jack is doing GOOD for him.... this team is too f-ing soft.

Broncos are gonna add Callahan and have the best top 3 DB trio in the league again. Fangio gonna bring that 2015 defense back. We’re coming baby.
- Pegullaville

You're going to be riding the tank train with the broncos too this season.

This is a very fair assessment. But it has felt there has been a good deal of goalpost movement in term of this season’s goals.

From the top of the standings, to mid-playoff pack, to a bubble team, to now what will be a top ten draft pick.

When the season is summarized as “well, we’re better than last year”, that just ignores the total collapse of the last three months. And that’s not what I want to hear from JB at the end of the year. I don’t want to hear again about how proud he is of the ten game win streak and a successful November.

Botterill has a bit of a challenge this offseason. Most of this crappy team is under contract for next year too.

Cole Caufield scores 6 goals tonight.... He should be a top 15 lock at this point. Maybe Botts likes him enough he considers him with our puck giving our need for a goalscoring winger.

It’s going to be very interesting both to see where the first pick ends up and who’s there when it comes around.

I wonder if the late season pant pooping makes it more likely he deals the later 1st. I hope he keeps it as it seems JB strength lies in drafting.

We might have a greater grasp of the draft closer to June. If Botts feels that Kaliyev/Caufield could still be on the board with the Blues pick that would be ideal.

That indeed sounds ideal. Forward prospects at the moment are a bit thin. Opposite of my feelings with the Bills, I’d be fine with JB trading up to get his guy in the mid 1st.
