Has Babcock nailed Matthews ro the bench because of his poor play recently or is that something he saves for the playoffs to send a message? - RippedFuel
They are going to sign all their UFAs to keep their core intact.
They should be able to sign some good free agents this summer - guys who are attracted to the stable ownership, good weather, great restaurants and nightlife, and good dressing room atmosphere.
And I think that new arena in downtown Ottawa opens next season, which should make the Senators even more profitable.

they'll certainly never have cap issues unlike teams that have actual good players. it's genius.

Plus, nobody checks your coat to see if you've brought a bottle of vodka to the arena.

Stop blaming Babcock. This isn't the reason the Leafs aren't gonna win. It's a lazy narrative. This isn't a case of 25 people on here are correct and the rest of the hockey world is wrong. There's more needed for this team to win a cup than changing going the coach. You're in denial of you believe otherwise.

tampa being twice as good as the next best team is probably the reason why toronto wont win the cup
If Gardiner's back is truly franked, can we re-sign him to a 1-year deal at low $$$$?
2 months ago, I thought he was going to get offers (note the plural) for $7+ million X multiple years.
But if has to undergo back surgery (wild speculation on my part), I don't know if anyone will be willing to drive up the Brinks truck to his house. - Atomic Wedgie
With his supposed back injury and lacklustre play he has talked himself out of that big contract. He might want to do that 1 year deal just to increase his value.

Why would you sign a guy who's back is truly (frank)ed? For Horton?

For sure. Along with not being able to get past Boston. I don't want the Leafs to gut the team and rebuild as some will suggest after my next sentence, but I wished they'd have not done the Muzzin trade. However, I do understand that Muzzin is replacing Gardiner so I do see the logic. I just don't think you can win the cup with Marleau's contract on the books (nothing against Marleau), so they actually had/have a couple of seasons to sort out a couple of dmen while infusing Lillybust, Sandin, Grundstrom and Bracco into the lineup.

The s enario is that his back is a question mark.
Other teams give him low-ball offers, so he is advised to sign a one-year deal to prove his value.
At that point, the Leafs have some appeal to him, as he knows the system and he wouldn't have to rent a U-Haul to move his poop to Ottawa. - Atomic Wedgie
There'll be some team lining up to do a 6x6.
GMs really aren't as clever as people think.
Okposo got the same deal while being blind in one eye
