I get a sense a lot of fans (myself included) really dont know how LTIR works
I assume the Leafs are cap smart and dont want to get into this hole. LTIR feels like a mechanism for a badly managed cap team that doesnt see another way out of a hole they created - senstroll
That's a good explanation of LTIR. I always just thought that it allowed you to defer to the next season. |

its probably a bigger deal than you think.
And it sounds very complicated and I am going to guess the Leafs dont want to use it

Luckily there's a guy that has a job exactly for this type of stuff.
I'm sure it's complicated stuff, kind of like doing non-standard tax returns. But people can still do it.
Point is, we use it while we have to. Horton's contract is up after next year. Marleau's contract up after next year. Next year is gonna be less than ideal but better times are coming, from a cap perspective. |

I get a sense you didnt really read the explanations.
anyways my bet is Dubas tries to get out from some of the bad deals instead of spending to the cap so he can use LTIR to get more cap space |

Hypothetically speaking can the leafs sign gardiner in the summer to say 6 million. Then he can have his surgery to repair his back. Ltir him and have him come back in Jan/feb. Would his contract be worth like 2 million (random number depending on games missed) on the books for the year? |

The Leafs should move Brown + for Jesse Puljujarvi. He wants out of Edmonton and Connor Brown is an ex-linemate of Connor McDavid. It fixes a problem at both ends. Puljujarvi is 6' 4" and can skate. The Oilers have mishandled him from the start and given a fresh opportunity, he might excel. Brown can give them help on the PK and may get back to his rookie scoring level, with McDavid on his line. The plus could be a draft pick, or selling them on taking Zaitsev off of our hands. The Leafs may have to take a partial salary dump, to make this happen. |

Adding Zaitsev to any deal makes it less appealing...it's more subtraction. |

Zaits has actually been OK without Gardiner, we might just keep him.
Plus how the hell can the Leafs take on a salary dump? |

All good in theory...
Just two questions?
1- Why would Edmonton make that trade?
2- Since both the Leafs and Oilers are up against the cap and neither team can take on a cap dump, which cap dump do we get for them taking our cap dump? |

Zaitsev has been better with Muzzin.. I just don't know how we, or the Oilers for that matter, can take on a salary dump? |

I guess I’m one of the few that thinks gardiner adds value to this team. |
