I guess I’m one of the few that thinks gardiner adds value to this team.
- bryant

Gardiner is valuable to the Leafs, we see it right now.. My question was more along the lines of; If he's not healthy, why give him $6M per season only to put him on LTIR?

Hypothetically speaking can the leafs sign gardiner in the summer to say 6 million. Then he can have his surgery to repair his back. Ltir him and have him come back in Jan/feb. Would his contract be worth like 2 million (random number depending on games missed) on the books for the year?
- bryant

this seems illogical

I have pretty much moved on from Jake, I am just tried of the hate he takes game in and out. He needs a new team imo

The Leafs should move Brown + for Jesse Puljujarvi. He wants out of Edmonton and Connor Brown is an ex-linemate of Connor McDavid. It fixes a problem at both ends. Puljujarvi is 6' 4" and can skate. The Oilers have mishandled him from the start and given a fresh opportunity, he might excel. Brown can give them help on the PK and may get back to his rookie scoring level, with McDavid on his line. The plus could be a draft pick, or selling them on taking Zaitsev off of our hands. The Leafs may have to take a partial salary dump, to make this happen.

While I would be fine with JP, I think I found an issue with him... a few days after his surgery they released a vid of him on an exercise bike and the dude has chicken legs, pretty sure he skips leg day

They can't. It's just another in the long line of things that only make sense to PrinceLH.

What we see right now, is a team that isnt playing with much effort or defensive liability for a full game.
Gardiner, while better than Marincin for sure and improves our Dcore (compare to right now), he doesnt change the above.

Only the individual players can.
These recent embarrassments arent as a result of not having Gardiner.
Heck or even Dermott.

Its a much bigger issue.

I felt this was the best year cap wise. Both marner and matthews on the cheap (very cheap) decent D (although 2 are injured) and still cap space.
Two years from now, jt will be older and slower, we'll have 3 guys making 30 plus million. We may or may not have kap, johnson or nylander....who knows (or we could still have all) and freddy will be making about 3-4 million more if he continues to play at his current pace (except the past couple of games).
Yes i know the cap will be up we assume.
But this seemed like a great year cap wise. However, i agree its evident now, the team is not ready.
So hopefully 2 years from now, but this year isnt over so we'll see.
Just my opinion
Anything can happen.

- Fakepartofme

but now you need to factor in their bonus and then you see they were as not cheap as you though they were.
roughly $2 mil each in bonus to be added to the cap

i’m getting a good lolz suddenly reading comments and opinions apeing the ones that i’ve maintained since greedy willy started his holdout 🤦‍♂️

this team isn’t built for any measure of playoff success and dubass the meterosexual, non nhl veteran should have traded both of those creampuffs for real men who play a heavy game and aren’t pusi whooped🤦‍♂️

what a (frank)ing joke 🤦‍♂️

edit: nice alliteration 👍

thanks for proving my point?

Yes, the results from the past 4 games wouldn't change, as every defensive zone faceoff that is lost is an automatic goal against.

For their talents and what they bring....still cheaper than 9.5 to 11.5m per.

All good in theory...

Just two questions?

1- Why would Edmonton make that trade?
2- Since both the Leafs and Oilers are up against the cap and neither team can take on a cap dump, which cap dump do we get for them taking our cap dump?

- PatC80

A cap dump of Kassian, or Sekara may suffice.

Does it count for the entire season? Because he turned 19 11 days ago and has gotten a bunch of points in that span. 7 game point streak.
