Yes they did seem to have chemistry but still he couldn't capitalize.
1 thing though, pettersson is so very good defensively. Playing goldy with him places a defensive black hole on the opposite wing. So that way they are a mis-match for 5-on-5.
Perhaps on the PP it would work.
Personally I think it would benefit goldy to add something new to his game, maybe his fortunes would change. Hang around the net for garbage goals, pucks that in off him and deflections. He can't be a defensive liability in front of the net after all - SMBDragon
Petterson is great, but nowhere near great defensively. This was one of the most hilarious things to read in a while. I think he will be good when he fills out but come on now. |

The real issue is a fringe player playing on the first line.
Goldy may have skills that are developing so he should not be on the first line . They need a guy that can put up at least 50 pts a year or hopefully more. - VANTEL
Right? But we keep signing gritty veterans to protect the kids who can’t score to save their lives. |

I’ll go with... winning 2nd overall, and then JB pulls a move to get 1st and takes Hughes. - NewYorkNuck
We may not have to. Kakko is rumored to be 1oa for certain gms. Either way we get a stellar player |

That was weird...Pearson pulled a guy of Marky? Never seen that before. Kinda nice - canucksfan1944
Lots to like in Pearson. Nice thing is that they are elements we were missing |

There is nothing wrong with signing a few gritty players. Vegas signed Reaves for 2.75 .
The problem is when you sign 6 mil top line guys and they score 10 goals and 15 assists for 6 years. |

Why does management consistently draft and trade for players that dont play the style of hockey we want? Is there really zero plan? I'm so confused. Goldy doesnt move his feet or try and back check so why trade for him? Dahlen is whiny and not the type of player we want again why pick him up. We wanna play fast so we sign beagle I just literally have no clue what management wants to do. - Jkuzzi
Ya I hear ya on the 1st 2.As for beagle you still need a defensive center that can take,e huge roles and faceoffs in high pressure situations against top lines. Shut down centers are important regardless. Kinda like how we benefited from rousel and the tough agitator role he brings. Its needed. |

For a forward and a rookie he is doing amazing defensively. I've seen him make very smart plays defensively, usually by the positioning of his body in relation to the direction of play. He also puts himself in between forwards to prevent the pass. He's very clever that way.
Perhaps you aren't watching him in our own zone?

The past couple years have all been reclamation project, filler type players. Signing Molhotra in 2011 or 2010 or whenever is one thing, but lately it’s been ridiculous how they prop up from the bottom.
I’m not saying they should have signed an expensive guy last year. Like a Stastny or whatever. It’s a waste of money at this point. They need more picks, more prospects and cap flexibility right now. |

I mean, ive only watched probably 40 of the games. I dont usually change the channel when the puck goes in our zone. He has gotten better at positioning as the year has gone on. I think he will be great one day, but he gets pushed out of lanes and doesnt have the speed to simply cut angles. His shots against paint the picture of somebody who is losing the battle most nights. I love EP and honestly think he is a generational talent, but he’s not there yet defensively at all. I have faith he will, iq and stick skills are good enough. But “for a rookie” is just a backpedal. Koktaniemi for example is much, much better “for a rookie” at defence than Pettersson. Love the kid, but that’s my opinion of his d |

Ya he's certainly come on through the season defense wise. This is something i didnt see early in his season.
He uses his crafty skating to suddenly change direction throwing off the attacker. Most players will try to force a player to slow and often a shifty player will just skate around. Pettersson does the opposite, he's the shifty player taking the attacker by surprise taking away his shooting lane. Very clever way for him to do it.
And ya I agree he certainly is a generational talent. Exciting to think of how good he can get in the next few years |

Maclean on 77 : He is certainly a bubble guy. Travis has had a great year with what he has had and I see Goldobin as a guy who won't come back. I can see a half a dozen changes coming and he is one of them. Over 70 games you have an idea of where you're headed.
I agree about the half dozen changes |

I choose no side.
I think JB is doing fine at the moment.
I will see how he does in the off season before calling for his head.
I think Green is doing well at bringing along the kids, no problem imo.
Not a fan of Def Leopard. - dbot
I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to see the team actually start the game with tenacity, something we haven’t seen in quite a few games. So I’ll give Green kudos for that, they seemed to be stifled in the second and third periods, but didn’t give up which is another bonus.
I’m not sure why the ref gave Khudobin 2 free miscues, should have been penalized for delay of game on knocking the net off, and then throwing his stick. Noticed Ron McClean didn’t want to criticize the refs and in fact stated good on them for allowing a stop in play, all good by the refs John... |

I think at this point we should all expect not to see Goldy back next year. I was firmly in the "give him a chance for the full season" camp at the start of the year, but he's turning out to be too much of a project, I think he's replaceable, shouldn't be hard to find someone who can put up numbers on Peteys wing. |

Could be an expensive lineup, in Utica, with Loui, Spooner and Schaller in that lineup.
Granlund Goldobin and Pouliot gone as well.
That would be my six to start. |

Let's get serious . You know as well as I do that if Schaller gets 2 more goals by the end of the year he will have free meals all summer in Vancouver |

Ya, we sure like our 4 goal scorers, with this team.
I Did a quick check on capfriendly, at least 11 contracts not worth renewing...IMO |
