We did have to do nuclear drills. Line up in the hallways and put your head down in your lap.
I guess so you could kiss your own ass goodbye if it was real. - Elbows15
The air raid siren would go off and we'd have the kneel under our desks.
Like the flimsy little grammar school disk would protect us from a nuclear blast or radiation fallout. Good thing them nasty rooskies never pushed the button. |

I was going to say "kiss your own ass goodbye." Hahahaha! Warped minds think alike. Yeah, drills have changed a lot. Too much poop in the world today. - I Am The Breadman
Duck and cover was big in the 50s - Korean War and Russia had the bomb. But we were kids - didn’t really understand.
It was the Cuban Missile Crisis that scared the poop out of us - we were convinced that the bombs were going to start falling - and, as we’re still learning, it was probably even scarier than we thought. |

Good thing we had rational actors in both the White House and the Kremlin - altho Curtis leMay was dicey. |

This last year we got two choices from campus security in case of a shooter--shelter in place or run like hell. |

Yeah ... I don't know. Khrushchev pounding his shoe on the table at the UN didn't give one a sense of stability. |

But neither Khrushchev nor Kennedy wanted the missiles launched - each knew how dramatically disastrous that would be.
Kruschev was a committed anti-West Communist - but he didn’t want to be responsible for millions and millions dead. From the discovery of the missiles on the island - the beginning of the crisis - both he and Kennedy were looking for a safe way out - against the advice of some in each leader!s cabinet. |

I know - but from an optics perspective it was kind of scary knowing the shoe-banger was the guy in charge of the soviet "nuclear trigger".

The biggest problem is we know what Gus is. He's an offensive minded D man who is an elite talent. The defensive side no question he is lacking on.
The other side of this coin is the inability of fans, coaches, management to realize that 2 is done. Done as in a top pair defensemen and he's arguably a 2nd pair on a cup contending team.
For all the nitpicking we do about 56, maybe we should start to nitpick 2's game and watch the parade of back door goals, that he gives up, or his lack of size, stick checking that doesn't work in today's game?
The smart move is shopping him this offseason and getting him out of here because nobody is taking 7 with that asinine cap hit.
Otherwise this team is locking up way too many spots for has been/inferior d men and will not take the next step back up any time soon - SteveRain
HERE HERE !! Totally in agreement with you SR. I've been on this for years. He's had unbelievable greatness and Norris trophies one year, followed by not even being mentioned in the top 10 the following year, with injuries not being a factor. It's been mind boggling. We all love his phenomenal contributions to 3 Cups and he'll be a Hall of Fame defenseman, but it's time to move him if there's any possibility at all this summer before his value is gone, like 7's.
Stan has created this defensive situation and now it's up to him to fix it. He's on the clock even more now in my book since his nice offensive acquisitions this year. Can he fix the D this summer ? I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

Would it be your goal to try to make another run before Toews and Kane decline? If so, how do you get closer to that if you get rid of the guy who is still the best defenseman on the team? If not, why stop at Keith? Gut the joint. Which is your choice? |

off hockey for a moment. Mike Trout is about to sign a deal for 12 yrs/ 430M.
They're gonna regret the back half of that contract. |

How is it structured? Like Hossa’s, front loaded so he just walks away after 6?
No cap - no recapture.... |

Thanks to you and others for sharing your stories. It is so crazy to read about the changes from your time to what I'm seeing now. There are moments of disconnect between students and me now, and I'm only 5-6 years older. Not a huge gap, but still different. I'm working on making connections with people, it makes me a better teacher. Now all I have to do is make sure I know my poop. |

its structure in such a way to make him able to buy his kids' way into college. Or just to buy a college. |

I think - barring serious injury - that contract will look better than Machado or Harper. Trout's WAR is better than theirs combined. |

Its my standard comment to any long term contract. Trout's WAR is top 5 in the history of baseball. |
