You're predicting they trade pick 12-15 plus what to move up to pick 6? They can't get the 6th pick any other way besides a trade. - tvetter
How the lottery balls fall carolina went from 12 to the 2nd overall pick. |

Teams in the 8-10 range can't be 6 after the lottery. |

8th seed in the West the past few years.
2018 - 95 points
2017 - 94
2016 - 87
2015 - 99
2014 - 91.
Pretty spread out. Glad it's not the past couple of years. - mohel
What you really need to look at is the standings at the bottom of the conference. I have not, but would bet you a couple third round picks that there were more teams with BAD records the last few years, as opposed to many teams with MEDIOCRE records...= PARITY = greater spread of points and lower threshold. |

The lottery is only for the top 3. Right now, we have pick 11. This means we can get picks 1,2,3,11,12,13 or 14. |

Only the top 3 spots are chosen by the ping pong ball lottery. Any non-playoff team can move into the top-3 spots if their ping pong ball is selected. After the top-3 spots are determined via the lottery the remaining draft order is determined by worst->best record. For every team in the 4->15 range that moves into the top-3 - the top-3 teams move down a spot. In other words, the team with the worst record can't do worse than 4th and only then if it was displaced by 3 teams that "won the lottery" and moved up in the draft.

Earlier in the year, Crawford was back, played decently well, but the team was giving up chances like a bunch of backyard kids who didn't know what defensive coverage means. It's no wonder that now that things are a bit more stable on the defensive side that their GAA takes an jump getting their #1 goalie back in the crease. - breadbag[b[No offense to Ward or Delia, but Crawford is the best goalie the Hawks have still. Despite the injuries, he doesn't look to be losing his game and might be the Hawks goalie for a while yet. If the Hawks can shore up a bit more and keep his bell from getting rung, we could see a real jump year over year in GAA and the win column.
Even that win against the Habs, Crawford had to make 48 saves and played great, but I feel like that was one of the easiest looking 40+ save shutouts. The team has an uphill battle and still probably won't make it, but still fun to watch.
No defense either!

Currently the Hawks have a 11.7% chance at making the playoffs (as per Hockey Reference):
According to The Athletic this morning, the Hawks playoff probability is 20%.
Plus, 6% to make the 2nd round, 2% to make round 3, 1% to make the SCF, and 0.2% to win the whole darn thing. - scottak
Even better. I've been quoting Hockey Reference all along so thought I'd keep it consistent. |

Well it could be an interesting race to the end of the regular season!
- walleyeb1
None of those teams seem to have an easy schedule. The issue is going to be all the head to head matchups the teams they are chasing have against each other. When you have Min/Dal/Az/Col all playing each other a couple times, somebody is going to get 2 points, and god forbid we get the dreaded 3 point game. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, before the Hawks won in MTL, I estimated they will need to go 9-3 to make the playoffs, if AZ goes 6-5 down the stretch. They got the 9th win out of the way, so they need to go 8-3, with hopefully some of those 3 losses maybe being an OTL. |

Hawks are 70.2% probability to beat the Canucks tonight. Vancouver on the 2nd of a back to back.
And, The Athletic has ARI getting the final spot with 88 points. So the Hawks need to get to 88 and let the ROW decide it, or get to 89. - scottak
I threw this together this morning after looking at the schedules:
CHI 8-3 = 16 + 73 = 89
ARI 5-5 = 10 + 78 = 88
MIN 5-4 = 10 + 77 = 87
COL 3-7 = 6 + 74 = 80

Regardless if they make the playoffs or not they at least have been enjoyable to watch...
That stretch after they fired Q was just plain dismal (thanks management)!!!
Think the forward they should go for is Kappanen...
Maybe Forsling and our 2019 2nd????
Just not sure whom they can target on D.....
2,7,5,56 Joki will have spots.....
Is the answer Jesus? |
