Taking a spot on the 50 man roster.

It's minimal, I know, but I'd rather a guy from the Marlies get a shot than a guy that's not gonna play much.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Petan is better than a lot of players that are on the 50 man roster.

It’s a no brainer when you have the go ahead to spend like the Leafs do.

2 years makes no sense.

If you want to re-sign the guy you just traded for who only gets into games when there's an injury or when trying to shake the team up a bit, then one year is more than enough.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Maybe the plan is to play him more?

That seems insanely high..

So, I really hope that it's accurate.

Numbers like that would be crazy, especially for a rookie.

well yes, 90th percentile ...not likely ..but 10% likely?

either way, what a (frank)ing talent ..and he is a Jay

Kap is a keeper imo.
Unless someone wants to overpay.

100%. He's a real deal player.

It’ll likely be close to league minimum.

To the point where it won’t cost anything to the cap if he’s sent down. If the Leafs want to pay someone 700k to play in the minors it’s not your problem.

Much like the Ennis deal there is nothing to complain about here.

- Santo_44

There is really no downside at all. They will need very cheap depth options with the big contracts up front.

Part of the reason they couldn't trade for a RD after the Muzzin deal is they had so little cap space. Dubas wants the bonuses to count this year. So the only deal would have been salary for salary, and teams looking to move out UFAs or what have you want picks and prospects, not salary back. The only option was probably Nylander or Kap for someone, although we don't know. But even then, It would have to be Nylander because Kap makes the minimum and if it was say, Pesce, he's at 5 million. Leafs had no space. So if we want to criticize Dubas for having no space to make a move that is fair, but we can't say he had a move and just didn't make it.
- aminnes

Maybe?

I think that if there was a top 4 RHD equal to Muzzin that could be had for the same cost as Muzzin, I think that Dubas would have made that deal instead..
Purely speculation, besides only Ek knows which top 4 RHD are available.

Right now? Yes. Next year? Maybe. The year after? Probably not.

That's why a 1 year deal, if re-signing him was a priority, makes a lot more sense. See what you have then.

Dubas made the trade down because Hunter said Dermott would still be there come the pick they were trading back for. If he didn't think he would be, they would have drafted Dermott with the Konecny pick.

I don't know if Rasanen will pan out or not. Just that those drafts seemed to be entirely Hunter drafts.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Trading down and still getting Dermott netting us Bracco.

Yep.

Dubas has created a great development program on the Marlies.

Their draft picks are signing PTO’s with them...that’s proof that players want to get in there and develop.

Well I mean McQuaid was right there for the taking, I can't believe the Leafs let a guy of his caliber slip through their fingers. Easily the top RHD option at the deadline

Or he plays and they get a really cheap player for the next two years.

It would of been awesome to have that in Ennis for next season....and if not? He doesn’t count against the cap and can play for the Marlies and help them out. It’s a no brainer if Petan is willing to do it.

If Brown does go, I would've hoped the Leafs could get home-grown Bracco in there instead of Petan. Not that it really matters though, I honestly like that Petan's getting a chance.
- Conquest

I think that our 4th line will consist of players making less than $1M per season. Hence the re-signing of Petan. The kid is versatile, can play C or W.

IMO, Bracco might be too good for the 4th line..

I'm glad Dubas is a process guy. In that regard him and Babcock share common ground.

I wish somehow this board's majority will had control over the Leafs, that would be neat.

Dubas would be fired and replaced by JFJ...

Bracco can slow cook until Marleau retires.

As nice as it would be to get McQuaid, CBJ did give up three assets to get him.. I don't know if we could do that as well..

I am sure the Leafs were interested but no one was outbidding CBJ in the players they targeted.
