That's the reasoning behind idiots buying lotto tickets. I'd rather have the "good" player than take a 70% chance of a guy who never even sniffs the NHL. - Wetbandit1

Yep, and there's $500M out there for you to win too.
It's not zero sum. Just because it hasn't worked doesn't mean it will never work. These are independent events, like the lottery. It has no memory. |

Joe Flacco is an average statistical QB. However he’s proven he can win. He’s won 7 road playoff games, an NFL record. Baltimore ran the ball well and had a fantastic defense. The Broncos will run the ball well and have a fantastic defense. We’ll see what that results in. I think it’s a 9-7 or 10-6 record and a wildcard spot. - Pegullaville
Last year joe flacco proved that he wasnt healthy enough to play qb.
Then when he was healthy enough, he proved to be a back up to a rookie qb.
Comparing what flacco or any other QB did in the "not so recent" past is irrelevant.
Joe's age 34 and he won the superbowl in 2012-13 |

I’m not going to argue the merits of drafting and developing homegrown talent. It’s what every good team in hockey does. |

TSN Quiz during the 1st intermission. 2/3 panelists said Buffalo would be the best fit for Q and there were 4 options. Eichel + Dahlin is a huge selling point for us no matter what the last 35 games say. |

This year they’ll be lucky to get anything done. They ran the Ball so well and nobody had seen their offense until it happened and had no tape on it. Lamar had one first down at the half in their playoff game against the Chargers. If they start Flacco they win that game I’m sure of it. They held rivers to field goals for most of the day. |

Do we count Montour and Skinner due to what Botterill used to trade for each player? |

They just kept showing flacco on the side line all game.
Obviously the writing was on the wall. He wasnt going to be back.
Flacco's experience should help

What’s their system? Keep your 2nd rounders and hit the lotto a few times?
They are why I hate just tossing picks around like candy.
There’s a free superstar in the late 1st/mid-rounds just sitting there every year and the rebuilding Buffalo Sabres trade picks like morons - sbroads24
I was just going off what Homie said about Point being a product of Tampa’s system
As far as your other point...
it’s still quite the crapshoot
I’d definitely offer Yzerman some crazy big bucks to be the Team President here
And give him authority to steal away Tampa’s scouts with big raises as well |

I have a 100% serious question for you. Do you really think any of the best teams got anything other than obscenely lucky? Chicago got stupid lucky to win Kane, so did the Pens for Crosby, Tampa selected Kucherov in the 2nd, Point in the 3rd, and Johnson is undrafted, Kopitar is a first overall talent taken at 11, they actually took Quick kind of high, but he won them one almost single handedly, Carlson at 27 is ridiculously lucky, same with Kuznetsov at 26, and Oshie was a trade.
Those GMs aren't wizards, they bet on 9 and won. Tampa has easily the most talented team of the cap era, and so far have precisely Richard to show for it. They're the 90's Bills so far.
Yes, absolutely those guys are out there at those picks, like that $500M jackpot is out there, the odds of someone winning are pretty high, but the odds of you winning is beyond minuscule. You're way, way more likely to get Zagrapan than Kopitar. So, if I can get Montour for a late first and a prospect that's not really panning out I'm pulling the trigger every time. It's a no brainer. |

Every player has a draft year. Nobody can ever predict everything. Even the best of the scouts have a rotten egg here or there. However there are some teams that consistently find talent in the draft. Buffalo never has, hence why we have the history we have. Anyone could have made the Eichel and Dahlin pick. Murray basically decided between Reinhart/Draisatil/Bennet and at least he didn’t pick Bennett. Mittelstadt and Nylander were bets that remain to be seen. Anything past the first round is a crap shoot but we have to be able to find talent. Heck even Montour was a late 2nd rounder and Murray had 3 cracks at him in 2014 and came up empty handed. |

Right. This is my point. The Sabres, above ANY OTHER team need to get obscenely lucky. I also wouldn’t call hitting a home run 1 out of 100 times luck, I’d call it a calculated bet that the more swings you take the chances of you hitting a home run increase. It’s not the same as the lottery. |
