How many goals and assists has he caused by his listless defensive effort?
- Marwood

Exactly. Ferarro was bang on when he said he doesn't create enough scoring to make up for his defensive liabilities.

Gotta sell season tickets for next year. That's always going to be a higher priority than seeing if Goldobin truly has it or not.
- YeOldTimer

After two expansions?
If nobody showed up at Rogers for the next three years Aquaman would still turn a profit.

He is done. Finally
- CanuckDon

I think they may be doing the same thing with Goldobin that they did with Hutton last year. Tough-love him into coming back more committed and prepared to compete next season. Challenging him to be better so he can achieve what they see to be his potential.

(Flip side is he's an RFA and may not want to re-sign here based on how they're treating him. Plus, you know, Russians.)

That’s a fair point.

But that line of thinking sounds awfully similar to the “fill the age gap, sign overpaid mentors” strategy that was justified by some because “fans wouldn’t support a real rebuild.”

They should do what’s best for the organization long term and the ticket sales will sort themselves out eventually.

I don’t care much about Goldobin, but I’d like to see more of Gaudette, ZMac, Sautner, Brisebois and Demko.

We already know what the other players are capable of in the NHL.

Majority of the people sitting in the lower bowl couldn't name half the players on the roster, let alone the prospects who aren't getting enough playing time. Their attendance is solely predicated on W's and L's.

You think they're the kind of guys who would say, "We don't need to sell out every home game, we've got all this expansion money."

If a franchise must rebuild but the loss of profit is a factor in stopping the rebuild then there is no better time to do it then now because of the revenue generated by the two expansion teams. It's considerable, $650 million for Seattle.

That would help offset any losses due to poopy attendance.

You’re probably right, but again to me it’s very short-sighted just worrying about selling tickets the next year. Even in business, sometimes you have to be willing to take some losses in the shorter term to maximize long term profit.

It goes deeper than just minutes played, I’m talking about this franchise’s entire long term strategy over the last few years.

If they are smart. Every well-run business plans for 'down years'. They must have something to show for all that attendance success from 2000 - 2015.

I makes sense to me that you take advantage of the situation given.

But does this principle apply equally to professional sports franchises? Are these businesses valued based on who wins the most championships or who generates more revenue year-in, year-out?

The current owners of the Canucks strike me as the kind of guys who would squeeze every last dollar out of owning the team before they 'pump&dump' it. They've already built the condos and they've grabbed the expansion money. They won't get max dollars selling a team if it has floundering attendance.

Dude, this account isn't and won't be doing anything to piss vantel off. As I'm sure you're aware, I have not been posting anything to piss off vantel fron any accounts.

You're mad at me, sure be mad, but wait until I actually do something that you can get mad about before reacting. If you were not a moderator I'd suggest that you're getting upset over nothing, you are however a moderator so I'll only say that I'm minding my own business and am not doing anything forbidden.

Still hoeing for a big win tonight.

1. Decisions made by Moderators are final
Mods are volunteers dedicated to keeping the forums civil and hockey talk flowing. If you don’t want to face bans, follow the code of conduct. Often Mods will warn before banning, but they aren’t required to. You are assumed to have read this Code of Conduct.

Occasionally a moderator will delete an offending post (and following posts that quote it) without banning. If that happens to you, consider yourself lucky to have avoided the ban and move on without comment.

No. There's also an overhead angle which shows the stick out of the goalie's hands before it makes any contact with Petterson.

This is why the NHL thinks it can get away with their bullsh!t.

What do you guys think of Sautner Briesbois ? Do we need to bring a 4 mil Hutton back or can we trade him off in a package deal with Jake for a top 6 forward?

I think they have both been steady and an upgrade of Pouliot.

- VANTEL

Yeah get rid of JV already.

I’d say it’s more about what else is going on in Vancouver that night. During the heydays, there is nothing bigger almost every night.

Pretty impressive complete level so far. Demko has been sharp, playing a solid game against the top line. Pettersson looks dangerous every shift. This is a team trying to make the dance and Canucks look up for the task so far.

Only in Vancouver

He’s got a lot more offensive promise than many on this squad. We clearly need offence. He’s being benched for a reason. I think he’ll be back

Bullocks. Vancouver has plenty of hockey fans. People will pay to see the top teams when they come to town, yeah sometimes it’s those types for sure but they arent the majority. Any playoff team comes to town and the place fills up pretty good. Attendance is down but still way above average, that’s not casual fanbase. If anything as the prices come down blue collar folks are able to go, and a bowl seat can be had by middle class. Heyday you needed to have some bucks to get those seats.
