I think there is a difference between being just bad and having the stink of losing. I think Buffalo, Colorado, and Edmonton have this where they are bad every year, their development suffers, and they simply don't know how to win games. I think a team like Carolina was just naturally bad, figured out to give young guys more prominent roles, and let them grow into roles and was actually fairly decent down the stretch last season. The table was set for them to be good this year, last season. I want to see the Rangers have a progressing arc like the Canes. Those games where we fought hard and lost in OT where say ADA had good games are invaluable to development. At some point, those hard loses need to become occasional wins, then you have to win more of those games over time. Next year, I want to see a strong finish even if we miss the playoffs by a good margin.

I don't know if that is the best comparison. If he has the skills of Eichel I would not be mad at all. I don't particularly like Eichel because he seems to be lacking intangibles or something. Granted I don't watch him a ton but he looks kinda passive when I have seen him.

It's not that he lacks the intangibles as much as he just doesn't know how to win. That's my issue with perpetual tanking, eventually you have to put all this together. If you don't know how to win, you can start 12 Eichels and 6 Dahlins and it won't make a difference. If I was them, I'd bring in in a veteran that can still contribute that's been on some winning teams. That whole culture needs to be changed. Getting a Justin Williams or a similar ilk player would do wonders for them.

I don't think Eichel is a bad player at all. He's very good. I just don't see him as a franchise player. He is still only 22 and could have an 80 point season this year, so who knows.

That makes sense. Him entering the playoffs and being exposed to that type of play might bring him to the next level. A veteran presence like you mentioned would probably be good too.
