Why wouldn't they sign all 3 of them unless they figure Hillman or Gilbert are better. None of the 3 are going to command big bucks much beyond the automatic 10% minimum required to qualify an RFA. And then you have depth to use in trade
when other teams are looking for cheap #5-6-7 defenceman to round out their roster in September.
And I wouldn't figure on any of those rookies like Boqvist, Beaudin or Krys being ready for prime time next season. - RickJ
Exactly
And if you are so fortunate that one of them turns out good enough to hold a top four, even a 5th or 6th slot well that is great news. Remember they may or may not just be filling a spot on the cheap. How about Hickey NYI. Originally a #'4 by LA Kings. A fair to middlin" dman nowadays. Think Lamoriello wanted him or DeHahn to stick around? I am guessing Hickey isn't making big coin. Who knows if a couple of our guys stick around maybe you get a Hickey type who plays for a few years or so |

Forsling and coocoo both terrible at NHL hockey. Really nothing redeemable. Seabrook reacts late or slow but usually in the right direction. These bozos look lost. Gus is a horrid defender but his body language at least says he's making a confident decision even if it is the wrong one. And he can make a first pass. Those guys very bad at that too. If either are back next year it is a bad sign.
Big Carl is a fringe player on most teams. Meh. Fine for 12 mins a night I guess. - fattybeef
How to win in Philly with our cast of dmen vs their youthful dman corps?
So whose goaltender stands on their head? Both teams have some nice forwards. Philly a better compete team?
This season's version of winning ugly. |

Good point that all 3 could be resigned. I wouldn't mind that as long as they are on two-way deals so they can be sent down to Rockford without having to clear waivers. Don't know the rules around that, though. You are right that none of them will command a substantial raise.
This scenario does make sense especially if Campbell and Davidson aren't retained by the Hogs which leaves just Carlsson, Gilbert, Tuulola, and Hillman (if resigned as an RFA). Also depends on if Boqvist and Beaudin stay in juniors another year and Krys and Mitchell stay one more season in the NCAA (or any combination of some staying put and some playing in Rockford in 2019-20). |

Young Henri is the second best defender in the organization maybe third at worst. If they had interest in winning he'd be in the line up. - fattybeef

I like Hickey as an option and was hoping he was at least pursued by Bowman last summer when he was a UFA. Hickey now makes $2.5M through 2021-22 which is a great affordable deal with term that shouldn't hinder one of the D prospects from eventually taking his spot. The Hawks would need to trade for him, though. |

A pretty good analysis on drafting over the past 16 years (2003-2018). It breaks down those 16 drafts into (3) 5-6 year periods by team in terms of points by drafted players. It's pretty illustrative and the Hawks fare pretty well. It also breaks down feeder leagues/countries. Pretty cool. Give it a read if you have a TheAthletic subscription.

It's a good read, but the overall logic is kinda flawed. Judging the draft by the number of points scored skews the results towards the teams that draft forwards over d-men and goalies. There are better ways to evaluate whether the draft was successful or not. It's a simplistic way to look at the draft and A good discussion starter if nothing else.

Yeah for sure - not the end all be all, but using a large sample size smooths that out a bit. Even if from only a relative perspective, it was nice (and somewhat surprising) the Hawks ranked as high as they did. |

Sorry man didn’t read the whole thread if you already posted that. LOL
Is Carter Hart the youngest goalie in the NHL? Pretty remarkable at 20 years old on a below average team...
.919 save % and 2.73 GAA |

Idk either, but maybe they are playing the long game interns of his development. I think when Joker began the year he was like one of 2 or 3, 19 year old defenders in the NHL.
Unless someone can prove to me playing in the A is hurting his development, I'm fine with it. |

Same here. While I would like him to be in Chicago, I trust the decision to let him develop more in Rockford if that is where he starts this fall. Whatever is best for his long-term career. Doesn't necessarily mean he's a Hog all season. |

Here’s another one that is at the top of my list, I suspect a few teams will be looking at him:
Jimmy Schuldt, Left Defence, St. Cloud State, 6’1″ 205 lbs, Senior
The captain of the Huskies, Schuldt has attended the Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights development camps in recent years. Schuldt has nine goals and 28 points in 32 games this season. The 23-year-old defenceman also plays a strong defensive game. Opposing forwards have to be careful not to come up Schuldt’s side with their heads down, as he is more than willing to take them out with a big hit. He clears the front of the net and shows strong containment in the cycle game as well. As is clear from his numbers Schuldt can provide some offence as well. He makes a strong first pass out of the zone and has the vision and playmaking skill to quarterback the powerplay. He also has a big slapshot from the point.
Note, he did attend the Blackhawks training camp in 2016, no idea if they’ve kept up with him. - walleyeb1
Sounds like he could be a good addition as well. |

It's only the difference in pay between NHL and AHL. Waivers are based on age and amount of NHL games played now. |

Hope you don't mind, but I shortened your quote (which was a great one).
There's been a lot if discussion about which is Koekkoek, Forsling and Dahlstrom should return next season. The consensus seems to be two will stay and one will go. While all three might be re-signed I'd like to see only one of these d-men return, at most.
Keith, Seabrook, Murphy and Gustafsson will all return. If Jokijarju is added to the mix that leaves two spots available. I would hope Stan would upgrade one of the d-men via free agency or trade, that leaves one sport (likely 7D) open. |
