Weren't good enough to start the season, haven't been good enough all season.
Just as they get a little close they drop home games to Colorado, Dallas, Vancouver, Philly.
And losses over the season to LAK, NJ.
They aren't a playoff team and never were. - RickJ
It was always a stretch to think they were.
But IF they sweep the Avs this weekend, they're in range again.

I guess being able to deflect puck isn't a skill in your world. Or the ability to enter the zone with puck control. - Elbows15
Ha I still play hockey.....I am not a NHL player. Shouldn't every NHL player be able to enter the zone with control and be able to deflect a shot?
Lets be realistic here...... |

That's because the rest of the bottom teams in the west are historically bad this year. If this was any other year theyd be dead and buried.
The worst scenario is coming true.....they'll just miss the playoffs and land in the mid teens for their pick. Not what a team with a TON of glaring holes needs. |

Then how come many can't do it? And why do I have to explain the difference in skill between Shaw and Caligula?

It's a bummer.
Mid-teen pick for Stanbean$ might net us another Schmaltz,
Hartman or McNeil. Maybe even a Teuvo.
It's a depressing prospect for sure.

Lets trade down so Stan can pick a Saad or a DeBinket.

Are you saying many NHL players can't carry a puck into the zone and stand in front of the net and deflect a shot?
There is a difference between wanting to do it vs can't do it. I think Shaw's want to was a lot higher and why he overachieved so far in his career.
But there isn't a guy on this team who can't carry a puck in the zone....that's crazy. |

Didn't Stan trade down before within the 1st round? To nab Schmaltz, I think? |

All of who aren't on the team...….
They don't have a top pair D, or even a 3.....or should we ignore the goals against this year and just chalk that up to bad luck?
But this team is just fine....I'll enjoy another year of getting excited about all the cap room they supposedly will have, and get excited for NMCs being given out this summer by Stanley.

I know because outside of Teuvo they were poor picks. Teuvo is highly skilled as we're seeing in Carolina, but was deemed expendable by the front office geniuses.
Colliton said a decision was made in December/January that the only way his team was going to win was to out score people. Thought that was an interesting revelation, one that JC knows won't fly long term.
Hawks have looked decent defensively many nights, but still way too many breakdowns. Example, Gus scores a nice goal to open the scoring last night. Shift or two later, he's trying to go end to end, coughs up the puck and the Flyers get a breakaway. And yet he never misses a shift.
I really like our young coach. He's bright AF, love his demeanor and thoughtfulness on most matters, but he's got to drop the hammer, bench idiocy for a period, and get this team to limit bullpoop defensive breakdowns.

How about - it’s just - a nice thing to do for the friends and family of a hockey fan whose life has ended.
Better than the fake patriotism of Cornellison (there’s my cynicism).

Who on this team can deflect the puck - not just get to the net (altho too few seem to be able to do that) - but be in the right spot and use his stick / skates to change direction of a puck from the blue line?
Toews, sure - maybe Anisimov.... |
