Hell yes, they break out the telestrator every game now days, but the systems are so complex now, it's probably too complex for kids to grasp the simple concepts.

I coach kids, I I've stopped telling the kids to watch NHL hockey to watch what players do. It's simply not realistic.

That's why I love the women's game - a slower pace, so the kids can actually watch what is going on, and it's much more applicable to what I want them to do in their game on Sunday morning at Ted Reeve Arena.

You watch a women's Olympic game, and the US and Canadian teams are soooooo technically perfect. Hell, maybe a little too perfect.

It's a good point. When we were young, the adages - never pass or skate the puck in front of your own net; don't pass back into your own zone were pretty simple. Now it's very fluid, and there are so many systems.

But I do wonder if this makes it less appealing for kids or not. My kids couldn't care less about hockey, and I've been an avid fan of the game. It just doesn't appeal to them. My son played for a year (asked to play), but it became very obvious he was only play playing because he thought I'd like it.

As someone who _immediately_ glommed on to the game as soon as I saw it, it's unusual how disinterested they are.

The game has changed, and with it so has the attention span of kids. It's a faster game now, which is fine and more exciting but there is way to much info now for kids to want to learn and understand. All these advanced stats, can be confusing and make it seem boring to kids.

When I played, our coach would say "dump the puck in, go hit someone and get the puck back." (Hitting was allowed, but anything other than shoulder to shoulder was a penalty, during the years I played)..
Now these kids are asking the coaches "why do I have to?"
