Sorry, but this kind of nonsense is laughable, literally every team has found middling players like Brisebois, Gaudette and Tryamkin in the third round and beyond. If this is what we're hanging our hat on regarding Bennings wonderful drafting ability, we're in trouble.
As for the rest of those guys, again, every team has a Lockwood, Dipietro, Rathbone they think are going to be great players, like you, but they rarely turn into anything.
Facts are, in the last four drafts only Boeser, Pettersson and Gaudetter have played more than 10 NHL games. - LeftCoaster
Where did I say they are great? I'm talking value.
Like I said most wont become NHLers but hey have a chance which is not something that the franchise has been able to say about its prospects in a long time. Benning needed to and needs to hit on top picks but as we've seen with Edm and Buf among others you need to be able to find players throughout the draft.
Find me some other examples of 5th round picks who won Hobey Baker as a Jr. Gaudrea in the 4th is probably the only one.
Benning is an idiot and has set back this team in many ways but if you cant see he's drafted well, especially outside of his top picks you aren't paying attention.
Edit. Nice cherry picking on the last 4 drafts....include the last year and dont include his most productive
He's gotten 7 players who've played over 10 games, 9 by the end of the year in 5 drafts. |

Nothing indicates he's drafted well outside of the first round any better than any other GM.
Gaudette was a good pick, they found value there, but how many other teams have found a bottom six kid in the 4th - 5th - 6th round? Winning the Hobey is meaningless lol, come on. |

Chiarelli has six, Tim Murray six, Hextall has seven, they've been fired, why does this make Benning special or even adequate? |

Chia and Murray's teams didn't have pride like the Canucks do, they rolled over down the stretch of the season.
Hextall got bodied by Homer. |

Using 2015 as an example and admittedly you have to crystal ball it but I would say 9 players among the 90 look like they are comparable or better than Gaudette in the 4th, 5th or 6th round so 3 teams?
2014 looks like 8 NHLers one of which is a Benning Pick.
2013 looks like 6 picks as NHLers
I think you are underestimating how few NHLers are produced outside of the top 2 rounds. |

Horvat and Pettersson both with a chance at 30, boy that'd be a nice thing for the team. |

He's had three top six picks and missed on two of them, I don't understand why people think he's this great drafter? - LeftCoaster

If you go through the draft there's been several teams who've found multiple middling players in the 3rd round and beyond, this is not something that Benning has separated himself from the pack with. That's all I'm saying.
Outside of the first round Bennings had five guys play a game not including Dipietro. So have a lot of other teams GM's. |

5 guys out of 2 drafts and 11 picks.... give it another year or two and I bet that number goes up.
For reference that is 45%. The league average for picks after the 3rd round is between 15-20% depending whose numbers your looking at.
3rd is 30% and 2nd is around 45%.
He's 100% on his 2nd and 3rd round picks from those 2 drafts and 25% on his picks after the 3rd round.
So ya, it does look like he is out performing the league.
There is no point on judging him on guys who have just been drafted, your smart enough to understand it takes time to see whether they can hack it.
