100%

Give him a 1 year, 1 way, 1 mill contract. I imagine neither side say's no if he was offered it.

at this point, who cares is a better question. The Canuck's biggest blunder over the last decade has been keeping players long past their prime, and not dealing them at an opportune time. Tanev is good for 60 games a season, if he has horse shoes up his a$$. Send him to a good team, who can afford to lose him for 1/4 of the season and still remain competitive, and rebuild the D. Replace him with a free agent defenseman, or use Tanev as a trade chip to acquire a young one (Fabbro, etc).
- Codes1087

On a good team Tansey doesn’t have to play as many minutes, or block shots. He would probably play all 82 in Tampa...

It would be hard to dispute the above. I can't see him being deployed anywhere the same way he is in VAN, if say he was dealt to NSH/WPG/TB/BOS.

And as we've seen with Guddy, getting traded to a better team allows you to be a better player.

I'm in the boat of trading Tanev, mainly because he has some value if not the most value as a tradeable asset. Trade him at the draft when he's healthy and teams are reeling from the playoff loss/exposed D.

I'd try to target Kapanen out of TO. Tanev for Kap, plus swapping 2nd or 3rd round picks.

Don't know if youre being flippant, but they actually are! I know it pisses #teamtank off but I'm super excited.

This is the make or break weekend. They win and they should be in a playoff spot. If they lose, they should still be picking in top 10. Some good players in top 15 this year....

No, No, No, Yes, sadly yes.

Virtanen......flat out nuts to trade this guy. You can't replace that speed. He's starting to figure it out, likely a consistent 20 goal guy. Plays middle 6 and great on the PK. Just no.

Hutton - you keep this guy until Juolevi shows up. On the Left side, Edler, Hughes, Juolevi, Hutton. You don't just trade a top 4 defenseman because you have a bottom pairing guy in the wings. Makes the team weaker, sorry.

Tanev - ugh, shouldve been dealt a while ago. Now, you keep him to add depth to the bottom 2 pairings. Again, you don't trade the guy unless you have a replacement for him.

Sutter - officially replaceable with Gaudette. This one isnt even a debate so Im with you on this one.

Goldobin - watching him you can tell that theres something there. He's lost in Vancouver tho. They will trade him and he will make JB look really, really bad. He's going to score 20-25 goals and get 50-55 pts.

- chompsey

I agree with almost everything here. Maybe not the Goldy prediction, I think it's a bit iffy that he gets as good a chance and as much patience elsewhere as he has here

Playoffs? If they make it they're out first round. I get it, revenue, experience for the kids. However i'll take a higher pick.

But if he was traded when his value was high, who would have mentored the d during the re-tool? Can you imagine how bad the canucks would have been? They probably would have finished bottom 5. Benning had no choice but to keep him.

Remind me again, where did they draft Boeser?

Edit: Now don't get me wrong, I see your point but I'm not entirely sure a handful of draft spots are really going to impact the Canucks future if they are in the 10-15 range, so why not some playoff hockey?

I'd rather have them make it and lose in the first round and pick 16 or 17, than barely miss the playoffs and pick 13-15.

I really have no idea what plays out over the Summer. I imagine Pouliot is let go, I could see Schenn being re-signed on a 1 year, 1 way contract for 1 mill. Hughes is a lock. I think i will wait to see how development camp shapes up before i do any pencilling in though
- Codes1087

I wouldn't be surprised if they end up moving Hughes to the right long term (assuming he can play either side like he says). As our right handed depth is atrocious. We really only have Woo as a right handed draft prospect and big question mark on Chatfield.

Edler/Hutton
Sautner
Brisebois
OJ when he is ready
Byram

By no means is the left side great but it is better off than the right. Without looking at UFA's or trade

20. San Jose takes pride in its scouting, which finds players even though they don’t draft high. Portland’s Joachim Blichfeld led the WHL in scoring. Baie-Comeau’s Ivan Chekhovich was second in the QMJHL. Split between Guelph and Peterborough, Ryan Merkley was second among OHL defencemen.

SJ scouting > OTT scouting

I can't find the exact quote from Jim Rutherford but it was on the teams improved defence since acquiring Gudbranson. Saying that since they have acquired Gudbranson the top 4 pairs have been both lefty-righty, which before was 3 lefties in the top 4.

Quote from Babcock
he had a jaw-dropping quote about the Jake Muzzin trade, noting his (then) roster of five left-handed shots, saying, “It’s not perfect — it’s what we got. It’s what was available and we’re going to make it work.”

5-4-1 since acquiring Muzzin
