Depends on how Hagelin does the rest of the way through until the Caps' post season is over one way or another. He's a big intangibles guy and is therefore at risk of being overvalued by GMs across the league, but if he slips through the cracks and his market value is, say, $1.2 mil or something, I wouldn't be shocked at seeing Rutherford make a push for him. He definitely has a track record of targeting guys he's familiar with, and we already know he explored reacquiring him this season before the CBA got in the way. A Hagelin-Blueger-ZAR fourth line would be pretty good probably. - Victoro311
I'm gonna nitpick and beat my dead horse, but the only spot for ZAR to be effective on this team is in the top-six, but yes, with the overall sentiment getting Hagelin back with Bleuger centering the fourth, the Pens have a lot of great options to construct this lineup.
McCann-Sid-Jake
ZAR-Geno-Phil
Rust-Bjugstad-Horn
Hagelin-Bleuger-Simon
That's pretty fierce IMO.

I agree and I was not advocating a move, just saying. I think the Pens will let Schultz walk on his next contract which frees up some cash.
Anyone think Montreal could win tonight and give us a hand? - burgh4life87
I certainly hope they don't let Schultz walk. Saw enough of what the defense looks like without him this year. And we don't really have an internal replacement. |

Well, no hes getting 3mill |

I would take a shot at bringing Hags back at $1.25- 1.75 no doubt. - Doogs

Washington is paying him that. Remember both Pittsburgh and LA retained salary in the trades. |

Tuesday's a pretty good day to be a Penguins fan. Canes play the Caps and Isles play CBJ. No real downside scenarios there. - Victoro311
Overtimes in both games kindof sucks |

I kinda feel like the “crap on Murray” comment sticks to me a bit...and that is fine, I admit that giving up late game tying goals frustrate me. I also admit that he has STRONG monents in every game as well. I have never said he sucks, or even they kept the wrong goalie. I understand all of what happened in that situation and have always said they made the right decision. My point has always been in regards to allowing them frustrates and hurts more as they are in a chase as well as heading into the playoffs.
It is only my opinion and if the entirety of the board disagrees, it doesn’t make me wrong, just different. I agree with tons that is said here. I share my prespective and that is it.

You're obviously entitled to your opinion, but I just think perspective is flawed. You're looking at the one or two goals you think he should have had while I'm looking at the fact the Pens wouldn't even still be in the game if it wasn't for him. |

I just dont think hes worth the money. It depends on what they do this offseason with the 4 left D under contract. |

If the Pens don't re-sign Schultz it will be a huge mistake IMO. Do you remember how this team looks while he was gone? |

I completely get that. And I think yours is flawed as well. And please know, pitching shut-outs has ZERO to do with this. Regardless to how many great saves he makes (and he makes many game in and game out) what happens all game long means nothing if in the last 30 seconds he gives up the tying goal. I agree that with the Pens line up there should never be a one goal game if they are doing their jobs offensively and I also agree that for a long time the D was letting him down. That is not my point at all. I am just talking about bad goals in the last minute. If he give up a goal on a good shot...$hit happens. The ones I am referring to are not good goals. |

Schultz has accomplished a lot in this league. If there is a team that wants to pay him $7M+ then the Pens should let him go get his payday. I think $6.5M, which relative to what the cap will be by then, for what he brings is completely reasonable. |

Schultz is gonna be a real strange case. He's probably priced himself out of here, and is almost certain to get a bad contract, but we have literally no way of replacing him. As great as he's been, I don't think we're gonna want Gudbranson as the staple 2RD moving forward. Midpairing RDs just don't make it to free agency and we don't have any in the pipeline. |

I think he has priced himself out of our range. Depending on what they sign Petterson to and what they decide to do with Maatta, I just dont see him returning. |

You're basically describing fandom. I'm right there with you. Murray had a pretty awful season and a half before he turned things around. Those late losses to the Flyers pretty much scarred me.

I think the same way Doogs.
Btw: Murray’s glove is AHL material. Period.
Overall he’s a good goalie and I’m happy with him! Let’s get a 6th cup with him! |

What is the potential cost to bring Hags back in UFA? Does the Hornqvist thing factor? Is bringing him back necessary with the emergence of McCann’s shorthanded abilities.
If they were willing to spend on Cullen’s lockerroom love (and he likely retires) would they do the same with Hagelin? - Doogs
I’d be all for Hagelin under $2M for a couple years in the offseason (if Cullen decides to retire and leave the roster). No correlation between positions here. |
