Schultz is gonna be a real strange case. He's probably priced himself out of here, and is almost certain to get a bad contract, but we have literally no way of replacing him. As great as he's been, I don't think we're gonna want Gudbranson as the staple 2RD moving forward. Midpairing RDs just don't make it to free agency and we don't have any in the pipeline.

We also don't know what moves will transpire this or next off-season. Who knows who gets moved out/brought in and for what. There's also Prow, who I have no real expectations for, nor do I think he's projected to be anything special, but you never know.

Also, lets say the Pens win the cup this year or next, that might cause the Pens to not make any major signings and begin stocking the cupboard back up. In two years the Pens may be content to icing a bubble team than going all-out to be a contender.

I think the same way Doogs.

Btw: Murray’s glove is AHL material. Period.
Overall he’s a good goalie and I’m happy with him! Let’s get a 6th cup with him!

I think he has priced himself out of our range. Depending on what they sign Petterson to and what they decide to do with Maatta, I just dont see him returning.

They'll probably have to pay it though and cut money elsewhere. Since they're already paying him 5.5M it's not like they'll need to clear a bunch of space.

So, it is unlikely they can move Johnson...do you move Maatta to open the space considering the depth they have proven to have on D?

FYI...

A source told DKPittsburghSports.com that Malkin was working out on the ice Saturday at the Lemieux Sports Complex, along with another injured member of the Penguins, Chad Ruhwedel, and one of the team’s skills coaches. Per the source, Malkin was skating briskly with no apparent difficulty.

Considering remaining schedules, it looks likely the Pens will end up in the 2 or 3 slot. We have a pretty easy schedule the rest of the way. 2 with Detroit, 2 with Rags, 1 at home against Carolina and Nash at home.

Murray’s glove isn’t his biggest weakness? I think it’s pretty below average.

His weakness, maybe. He also gets a higher concentration of shots on his glove because that was the word on him after he couldn't stop a top shelf wrap around to save his life a few years back.

Below average? Nope. AHL level? Definitely not. No goalie would be called up for an extended period of time with an AHL glove, thats just laughable.

I kinda feel like the “crap on Murray” comment sticks to me a bit...and that is fine, I admit that giving up late game tying goals frustrate me. I also admit that he has STRONG monents in every game as well. I have never said he sucks, or even they kept the wrong goalie. I understand all of what happened in that situation and have always said they made the right decision. My point has always been in regards to allowing them frustrates and hurts more as they are in a chase as well as heading into the playoffs.

It is only my opinion and if the entirety of the board disagrees, it doesn’t make me wrong, just different. I agree with tons that is said here. I share my prespective and that is it.

I don’t feel that JJ deserves all of the hate either. I don’t think he is worth his contract, but he does battle.

All in all this is a good place to talk and share about the team we follow, that is why we come here.

Cheers

What happened to wearing it 24/7 and no bathing?

Also, you're supposed to say Crosby sucks and there's no way they're beating the Rangers.....

For Schultz I'd worry about it later, it's only around 1M if that. The bigger move they'll have to plan for is Murray's next contract.

The Pens definitely have a logjam at LD that they could move a guy from. I'd rather buy out JJ then trade Maatta, but what you said is probably more likely to their thinking.

That or moving Kessel while he has value sounds like something they might do, at least according to the beat writers. Think alot will depend on how the playoffs go for them.

I'm guessing Grinder or the one guy responding to him, but I didn't see anything serious.

Yah, the market on RD is tough too. I certainly dont want to see him go. I think him and Maatta are a very solid 2nd pairing.

If Maatta is even here after this season. This playoff season will be very telling on the future of JJ and Maatta.

I've been wondering if he's healthy and they're just not playing him because he's out of their top 6 right now. Thought he got cleared for contact almost a week ago.

True, they are in a logjam right now at LD. The organization speaks so highly of Maatta that I cant see them trading him, but you know dang well they aren't trading JJ.

It will be really interesting to see if they sit Petterson when Maatta returns. I'm not sure MP was in their longterm plans this season, but kind of forced them to keep him in.
