You have any info to backup your claim?
- Feds91Stammer

Didn’t get to print those posts but you could find RW’s articles in the beginning of the year with people saying how terrible Murray was on his glove side.

No data saying his glove side is bad. Not some garbage eye test confirmation/recency bias.

Is there a site that tracks that? I honestly never looked into it.

I remember someone did a heat map on the goal years ago, but it wasn't like a major production.

I mean his glove is slow. Murr’s fast twitch in general has been his weakness sense day 1, but I think people have a really unrealistic expectation for glove side saves. Hasn’t it been found that top shelf glove side has been the easiest way to beat a goalie since the butterfly era began? Murr’s glove isn’t a strength, but no part of his game is AHL caliber. Not many guys have a great glove.

The best gloves are more positionally sound than they are quick.

Yes, he got clobbered after moving the puck. They never showed a replay, but Errey babbled about it. He finished the game, but who knows if that was the hit.

Let the Trotman era re-commence...

...hopefully they call up someone differnent...or...Maatta is ready.

I dont mind Tanger getting a bit more rest right now. The Pens have like a 99% chance of making playoffs and I dont really care who they play the first round. If they did get Tampa and managed to take them out, which I do believe possible, then look the F out the rest of the way. They'd catapult to the final. If you're going all the way you're probably gonna have to face the Bolts anyway.

Every now and again NHL.com throws up articles with goalie heat maps on them. I wish it was more common.

Oh I agree that the quick glove hand stuff is overrated and would much rather have a positionally sound fundamentals guy than a gunslinging fast twitch guy even if their relative slowness gets them beat ugly sometimes. I think in the long run it leads to more saves. I just think the people that hate on Murray’s glove are right specifically about the glove being slow but totally get wrong how important it is.

This was from a few years ago. Looks like the company is like “Double Blue” or some poop. I don’t think the data is publicly available but I remember nhl.com doing comparisons of goalies entering the playoff series if I remember correctly.

This is what I’d do since points matter a lot right now:

Pettbrandson is playing at a second pairing level so keep that in tact and use it as your second pairing. Then load up the top pairing with your two best dudes in Dumoulin and Schultz so you have an actual functioning top pairing. Then hide the ever living poop out of Johnson and whoever. If these pairings are working well by the time Letang and Maatta come back, then keep them together and reunite Maatang for the first time in years for your top pairing. The defense would be smooth sailing at that point.

This was from the Pens/Jackets series that year.

Here’s Price vs Hank.

https://www.nhl.com/news/...s-pekka-rinne/c-289402854

Gibson vs. Rinne

There’s a common theme among all of these comparisons. Every tendy except Rinne (who is considered to have the best glove in the game) has more goals to the glove hand than anywhere else on there. And even Rinne is like 1 goal below high blocker.

I agree. With how well the third line is playing without getting goals (Hornqvist in particular feels overdue) and a second line with Malkin and Kessel that could go off at any time and nobody would be surprised, Pens are a scary matchup as they're a good team that looks like they are very capable of another gear and have the championship pedigree to back that up. Of course Tampa deserves to be the favorites, but Pens got a shot against anyone.

Sully doesn't seem to want to play guys on their off-side lately, so would be interesting to see if that changed with the 4 LD being better options than Trotman. JJ is the only one who plays off-side that I recall and it wasn't pretty.
