Well ... if you can't be good then be the best of the worst.
- EbonyRaptor

I mentioned elsewhere that I am not even sure its the system. Mainly because I have yet to detect a system. Most of the times it looks like 4 guys doing something different every time.

I wouldn't be too nit-picky. They have put up 5 goals on the team sitting second in the conference. Leads aren't safe. That is the NHL today.
- breadbag

I can't believe anyone is being picky at this point. Well, yes I can.

Always doing something different can be a system ... just not a good one.

At least we are better than Seattle.
- Googlyeyes

If we play defense the same then we could loose even to Seattle. Whom doesn't have a team yet!

It will be interesting what Seattle roster looks like compared to expansion Vegas.

Does Colliton plan to teach a 2 1 2 schematic?

On the tiring goal Koekkoech went toward boards and pick up wrong man. Is this something coaching can correct or a brain fart?

A lot of the problems this season are related to knowing and being responsible. Plus some players have to get shook up to force them to give a damn and to be responsible. No dumb plays....some always happen......cut down on them......which DeBrincat does regularly. One or two tough dmen like Gilbert seems like it would help.

very simple...see the play in front and then take peak whats behind you...

Truth be told - I wanted the Hawks to play well enough coming down the stretch to make the playoffs ... but now I would just as soon have the guys going for personal best scoring number score a bunch but the team lose for better draft position. If they had won a couple of the games they lost and were still legitimately in position to get in - then I would still want them to do it - but unfortunately that isn't the case so let's move up a spot or two in the draft.

With 2 more PK goals given up tonight - is the Hawks PK getting into the historically bad territory? I don't remember ever seeing a PK this bad.
- EbonyRaptor

I think this is the worst PK percentage in 30 years - about 73%.

They've come a long way from November where it was constant with 3 guys going to one guy and leaving others open. That was hard to watch.

Personally, I don't think Koekkoek is totally to blame on that last Shark's goal. He didn't commit to coming over until Murpy and Sikura both lost body position and it basically turned into an odd man break. Not saying Koekkoek is faultless, but the Hawks got outworked in the middle of the ice and that created the whole situation.

Thanks for input.

Too many mistakes.

And they are without Pavelski and Karlsson.

Special K can't vacate the middle of the ice especially because it became an odd man situation. It was a bad read by him. Of course the blame isn't all his. But he needed to play that smarter.

There is kind of a weird stat in the box score - Gustafsson is the only dman who has PP time and the only dman who doesn't have PK time.

This review is like Paul Harvey saying "now for the rest of the story."

The rest of the story is played out when next fall Colliton teaches a different defense and rewards players who are responsible.

May as well give Gus a shot. Can't be any worse.

Yeah, I get it. We want them to draft well. I'm just saying it ain't all bad right now. They missed on the post-season, but at least they improved as the season went on. 24-15-5 since they came out of that early December skid where they were dead last in the league.

On Dec 11th when they were sitting last, they were -33 in goal differential, but were at least +8 since that point. If they can fix the PK over the summer, next year could be a rebound season. Maybe the Hawks would be in the postseason right now if the coaching change didn't happen mid season.

Edmonton lost in OT - so they picked up a point. Vancouver just went to OT so they pick up at least 1 point. Draft positioning.

Yeah, I know, he needed to cover the guy and not allow a pass and let Crawford worry about the guy on the wing if he decides to shoot.

I think there are still plenty of positives. Yes, Stan has some work to do. Overall, I'm not as upset now as I was around December. I'm optimistic.
- I Am The Breadman

I have hope for the future. I'm optimistic that they can add some guys for next year and beyond that there should be help coming up in the system too.

I love sitting down under here at 3:30pm watching hockey. The only downside is I am generally at work during the day and can't drink to calm the nerves that the Hawks give me

Does the ice seem kinda meh to anyone else? Seems like one of those games where it is bouncing a bit more than usual.
