His numbers aren’t great but he plays against top competition all night.

He’s better than Z

- Santo_44

My only complaint is he’s slow, good positionally which saves him lots but still slow.

Not likely. All they have to do is force the poopty RD to make the passes and cut off the stretch pass in the neutral zone. Most of the teams that have beat the Leafs did exactly that, especially the Bruins last year.

He’s a good 3rd pairing D.

I have no complaints with his play.

I heard other teams don’t lose or play bad periods.

Things were better in Babcock's first season. Everything went perfectly.

That's not true. There's plenty of different styles mostly because each team is limited or gifted with certain types of players. The Flyers and the Penguins play completely different. The Lightning and the Bruins are completely different. The Predators and the Leafs play completely different.

I don’t think so, they get the puck out the zone as quick as possible. Carry it in if they can or dump it in if they can’t. Don’t turn it over at the lines.

Season 9 is one of the best just for Homer Vs. The City of New York.

I probably go with You Only Move Twice as my personal favourite. I think that was S7.

That's like saying everybody plays the same because they all wear skates and use sticks.

On some level, yes, they are all doing similar things but the devil is in the details. Each team, for one reason or another, is going to play differently and ultimately, some work better than others.

Hank Scorpio!

Funny you mention that episode because John Swartzwelder was the guy who wrote it and after he left in 2003, the show really started to tank. He was (and still is) the most prolific writer / producer.

I guess they do some things a little different...more defensively then offensively

Even offensively, teams play very differently. There are teams that play exclusively off the rush and there are other teams that cycle the puck.

The problem is that the poopty RD aren't being given any outlet option. Everybody is flying the coop way too soon in anticipation of a stretch pass that the RD simply can't make. If the RW was to commit to staying back that would give the option of a short pass which isn't on now. As it stands, all the F1 needs to do is cut off the D to D pass and the only option left for RD is to fire it 100' or more up the boards as there's no other option.

What compounds the situation is that it's ALWAYS the RD that's the weakest one for the Leafs - teams can commit to that play, because it doesn't matter who is playing that side.

This!!

And when we have been effective it has been the quick transition with those quick shorter passes available where we get it to the wingers who can then use speed and get outside and around the opposition, for a good with speed chance OR pull up sharp and feed the trailer who can get a good shot usually.

I've been saying this for ages. The Leafs D aren't really the problem. You can pretty much win with that D. The forwards are the problem. There's no difference between 95% of the dmen in the NHL. There's a vast difference in how they look depending on the team's style of play.
