I broke my own rule, no politics in the thread.

I will now eviscerate myself since I have dishonored my family

The location is a cluster(frank) for sure. The traffic there is already horrendous as it is and the LIRR, as presently structured, can in no way handle the crowds that would come in. The infrastructure at the station is old as (frank) and everything there, platforms included, are crumbling.

Let’s not even mention the fact, the way the tracks are formatted and how the signals would have to be used, the train has to bypass the station to the east, clear that signal, and then go back west. Shuttle trains might be their only option, especially at first.

I've never been to Belmont, but I did go to the US Open a few years ago, it it was a franking nightmare to get there and back.

But keep in mind, that's from the perspective of a tourist staying in mid-town Manhattan, and from what I understand, the Islanders won't be trying to cater their new arena location to my needs. Bastards.

I find the whole business side of locating arenas and stadiums fascinating.

When they first proposed to build Skydome in downtown Toronto, you had legions of planners and urbanists (including the great Jane Jacobs) saying that it was huge mistake - and then very soon afterwards, they all admitted they were wrong. While it's probably no longer a great idea to use up prime real estate (Skydome was interesting, as it was on derelict land close to the downtown core), it seems everyone still agrees that an arena or stadium needs to have immediate access to mass transit.

Are they the stairs that Kevin Hayes crapped in? If so, no thanks.

In terms of geographic location, Shinnecock and Elmont couldn’t be further apart so that was more of a distance problem for you (or anybody west of Suffolk for that matter).

It gonna be a cluster(frank) for the reasons I listed and the only thing that can even try to fix that is money the MTA doesn’t have. In fact, they’re half a BILLION $$ in debt and have board members that probably don’t give a (frank) but since this is Cuomo’s baby, it will get done, and all your monthly tickets will just go up even higher. Nice, right?

The only major highway that hits that area is the Cross Island Parkway. All 3 major east-west highways cross it but that traffic is already horrendous there.

The LIRR isn't a viable option if you want to get home at a reasonable time. You will probably be looking at an 1 1/2 hour train ride. Pretty much every branch runs local trains that time of night so you will stop at every single stop. If you are out as far as Chiefs you will need to drive to Babylon or Ronkonkoma because those branches out east don't have service in the late evening.

Jeeves, this gentlemen is disturbing me. Please have him removed.

It's a shame what this place has become. Hockeybuzz lets in just about anyone these days.

Oh damn. That’s actually fairly easy to get to in terms of mass transit. You can take the LIRR or the subway there.

Getting to Elmont is gonna be like trying to get to Met Life stadium in Jersey in comparison.

Then brace yourself, JimmyP, because I have some devastating news for you:

They are no longer planning to build a 17,500 seat arena in Ronkonkoma.

I'm shocked by this, quite frankly. I really felt this was a great idea.

The worst part is the one-way-in, one-way-out aspect of things. It might take you an hour to leave the god damn station, forget your commute. The only branch that hits Belmont directly, I believe, is the Hempstead branch which is one of the lighter travelled branches. Everybody would still have to go back to Jamaica and transfer back east which could make this worse than Barclays. lol. Much worse, actually.

That's the only way. It will be a nightmare unless you are coming in from the west which is a small percentage of Islander fans.

Isles are ripe for the picking. Playing a good, but struggling, opponent coming off another loss to a basement-dweller rival and the Isles were just on cloud-nine after the last game. This has major letdown written all over it for us.

It still blows my mind that when the “new” Coliseum was “refurbished” no one, NO ONE, even thought, “hey, maybe we should make this arena viable for a professional hockey or basketball team.” Its not like they’ve ever had problems filling it for concerts for years.

That’s the perfect location. Driving there isn’t terrible and the LIRR is a pretty short cab or uber ride from the Babylon, Hempstead and Huntington/Ronkonkoma lines.
Just like the Barclays should have been formatted for hockey and basketball in the first place but that’s an argument way past due.

It just feels like we're due and the game after clinching is probably historically a big trap game. Leafs have one of the best offenses in the league and we've held them to one goal across two games.

Just shut up and let me reverse-jinx the Islanders here

I mean, it is viable for hockey and basketball games. Small capacity ones, but viable. They weren't going to add 5,000 extra seats on the off-chance the Islanders made a triumphant return.

Was it gonna take 5,000 extra seats? Because if it would have been 1,000 or 2,000 seats I really don’t get why that would be a hurdle. I’m pretty sure Ratner owns both buildings so he had to know the semantics of the Barclays contract and that “out” clause better than anyone I would think.

Figured the idea of looking at how individual players perform vs the opponent and which players have overperformed/underperformed recently was a bit unique- you can find lineups/stories going into the game through basically any mainstream media. Thought it would be cool to do stuff like this for each game.

Has it already gotten stale?

- Ben Shelley

I'm not big on hockey stats. I don't mind them. They tell part of the story, so they serve a purpose ...... somewhat.... but maybe vary it a little? I dunno. You're still an improvement over some of the past bloggers.
