Leafs fans don't talk about that series, out of respect for Peca's knee.

It was a legal hit, fellas.

It was a legal hit.

Back then.

- Atomic Wedgie

No, not even back then. Late hit? Borderline. Low bridge? Not legal even back then.

I hope Garth Snow gets hit by two trains

Well of course Weight was earning close to $3 million per. He was wearing 2 hats, right? $1.5 for coaching, and $1.5 for being the ass't GM.

I should have been more clear: US Tennis Open.
- Atomic Wedgie

I knew what you meant. Not to quibble, but the US Open is an easy straight shot on the #7 train from midtown Manhattan. They even run express trains during Mets games, and I presume, the US Open. Not to mention that you get a great view of Queens en route.

Because of subway access (and slightly better LIRR access than Belmont), I had hoped that Willets Point was the choice for the new arena. I forget why that didn't pan out...

Figured the idea of looking at how individual players perform vs the opponent and which players have overperformed/underperformed recently was a bit unique- you can find lineups/stories going into the game through basically any mainstream media. Thought it would be cool to do stuff like this for each game.

Has it already gotten stale?

- Ben Shelley

I for one enjoy and appreciate the content Ben, but your go to format, though highly informative, is rather repetitive.

Personally I think your blogs need a bit of opinion to spice up the facts. Perhaps a couple paragraphs at the end concerning something Islander related (Belmont, Lee contract talks, what to do with Eberle as a UFA, etc)?

Was it gonna take 5,000 extra seats? Because if it would have been 1,000 or 2,000 seats I really don’t get why that would be a hurdle. I’m pretty sure Ratner owns both buildings so he had to know the semantics of the Barclays contract and that “out” clause better than anyone I would think.
- potvin05

Wasn't there a rumor Ratner wanted to make sure it would only be viable for minor league sports to prevent them returning?

...found the story...take it with a grain of salt as I know nothing about this writer or site, and he doesn't cite a source. The story's mostly about Belmont.

Drama Surrounding Saratoga, Belmont and Islanders Ending

Ratner decreased Nassau Coliseum seating capacity to below NHL standards and was so petty as to pour concrete down the toilets in executive suites, rendering them useless. Ratner did this to insure that the Isles would play in Brooklyn.

The plan, seemingly criminal in nature and most definitely a conflict of interest, did not work.

Ratner made sure the Coliseum would be suitable for minor league sports only, turning an aging facility into a barn with the charm of a subway car. The Coliseum still lacks sufficient bathrooms, offers subpar food, and very few amenities, e.g. wait service in the business suites.

Tonelli was a beast digging the puck out of the corners, winning one on one battles. Plus, he had a decent shot, too.

No, really, it was a legal hit.

That offseason, the NHL tweaked the rules to make it illegal. But at the time, it was legal.

Look it up.
