Has to be nice to have a stacked roster

Simmonds, although seemingly in the twilight of a high producing career, is the type of player we need. You want a high danger, physical and talented forward? That's your guy.

I don’t think we can risk a high draft pick when we have zero backup

I think you go safe and take Alex Turcotte zero chance he bust he will be a star

Like Clayton Keller. Quite "being like Murray." Dont hate Russians.

I wouldn't mind taking a run at Anders Lee for a number of reasons. But he more likely than not will resign with the Isles

Is anyone able to justify keeping Housley? This is a serious question, and I'm looking for an objective answer. Coaching consistency? Culture development? Communication? Is any of this worth a damn without results?

I'm a culture guy, but let's be honest, it's the salt in the soup.

There’s an argument to be made
Not a great one though

Pretty much the same as with Bylsma
I don’t think either coach has really gotten to “play their system” bc they didn’t have the players to do it

They realize how flawed the roster is,
so it leads them to depend on subpar vets instead of giving the kids a legit shot bc our margin of error is so thin they can’t let the kids make the mistakes

But when u consider our “Vets” keep making these mistakes too,
then you’ve really gotta wonder why we don’t give more kids a shot?
They tried to do it with Tage this year to little success,
but the amount of seemingly terrible decisions with the lineup has been beyond frustrating

Also, continuity

Also, do we have a legit replacement or is it just another guy?

Also,
With how young (not ready) some of these guys are, and how flawed in general the roster is...
could another coach have done much better?
Maybe. But it’s hard to see it

Like i said, not a great argument
But there’s stuff in there that at least points to how/why we’ve struggled

Simmonds is definitely on the decline though- he’s just not the same guy anymore

Whatever team signs him to a long term deal this summer is gonna end up regretting it sooner than later

I guess if the "culture is good" as Housley said on wgr, then maybe it''s best for GMJB to retool the roster as much as possible with depth and impact players via trade, free agency and hopefully land an NHL ready impact player at the draft.

He's going to have to do that regardless of the coaching staff, but maybe just rebooting the staff isn't the answer and might further disillusion these young players.

However, in my opinion, Housley has underachieved despite this roster. I had picked the Sabres to finish between 26th-21st place, so I would keep him on short(december) leash if they do keep him.
