I didn't get to see the game last night, and haven't read back. Anyone care to feed my laziness with a quick synopsis of how he played?

Overall I think he was OK. There were some obvious nerves that came into his play, especially early, where he mishandled or fumbled pucks, but overall he engaged well, I think he was credited with 6 hits. He seems to be a decent skater and moved the puck out of the zone with his legs a few times, and other times he made decent decisions and good passes. For his first game and about 13 protected minutes of ice time he was fine.

Chiado's is very good for Portuguese tapas and port. Portuguese pirri pirri chicken is excellent, Pirri is not so good at hockey. There is a chicken only restaurant called Nandos which is very good, they have them in the U.S too

Goat is like lamb or mutton. Once you get past the idea the food is bad try some, you'll be surprised. And I say that from experience, my Mom was a Brit who had no idea how to cook, she either boiled the crap out of everything and then added salt and pepper or cooked it in grease. I was fine with that until I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried different things. Now I look back and have no idea how I liked my Mom's cooking?

Hahahaha!! It's a little bit comfort zone. I do branch out, a lot that is Asian, I love. Korean bbq and Thai is so good, and I actively avoided all that for the longest time. A lot of what I don't like are the Indian spices, I just don't care for the taste. That is the heart of that type of food.

Getting back to hockey. Good night for 19 and 88. Great for Ward, a couple posts saved him, but I don't blame him for the first 2 goals. The third one, he has a hard time keeping his leg flush with the ice. Gilbert looked good, minus the penalty. He's big, hits, smooth skating, head's always up, good passing, and doesn't panic with the puck. Small sample, but good outing.

Bad plays here and there that the blue waffles were able to get a good look out of. LOVE beating them!! Would rather they not get the loser point. Great effort from the hawks in a game that meant nothing. I still like seeing them compete.

I disagree Gilbert was terrible! I felt bad for him that is why there were some shifts he was not on the ice with Murphy.
I watched all the defensemen in traverse city and none of them were ready to in the NHL. And Gilbert from what I watched last night is not ready.

Thanks for sharing this. I think we talked a bit about this around here at the deadline. Selling/Buying or doing nothing, all send a message to the guys on the ice. I think the "underlying message" with much of the Hawks moves the last 2 years is don't sacrifice the future to win now. I think the vets get that and the "dumbfounded" might be a strong choice of words. That's just my feeling anyway. It is entirely possible that making the right move to buy at the deadline would have gotten them over the hump to get into the playoffs, but hard to think they'd be going all the way. I think most people here appreciate that the Hawks are playing the long game on improving the team. (no that doesn't mean tanking)

Agree with your post though, especially the last part. It's just where they are in the process and a couple of deadline rentals would have been silly on Stan's part given the likely cost.

Thanks Trob! He was touted as a guy that would clear the crease and was more defensive minded, so I guess that's a positive outcome.

Haven't been to Montreal or Detroit but best sammich evah - New York deli pastrami - 2 inches of lean pastrami on rye with a big honkin kosher dill ... oh yeah

LOL! Sorry Bread. I never received any Culinary Sensitivity Training so I certainly didn't mean to offend the lactose intolerant.

You must have missed my post the other day...no scrotums. I have a pretty diverse palette but some of that stuff you'd have to think that guy ate on a dare or someone was playing a joke on him and then he tried to replicate it on the rest of the world.

Nerves were there, but I wouldn't say terrible. I thought he calmed down after the 1st.

At schwartz's they offer lean, medium and fatty. fatty is gross, lean is good but the regular is the best. you can either get the sandwich with 2 inches of smoked meat on rye or you can order the platter and it comes in varying sizes with a stack of rye and you assemble the sandwish yourself. It's the best way to take the sandwich out so the rye doesn't get too soggy. They also have the huge kosher dills. If you're ever in Montreal look it up it's very good.

I didn't remember/realize "lean" was an ordering option - I only meant that it wasn't fatty the way pastrami is sometimes (I agree - gross). It was probably around 30 years ago when I was in NY and had that yummy pastrami sandwich. I gobbled it up right there in the deli so the bread didn't have enough time to get soggy.

I ran the Tankathon simulator a few times. On the 4th try the Hawks came up 2nd. We'll see what happens next Tuesday when the real lottery occurs.

I live in the traverse city area part time some I go to the prospect tournament every year. I think terrible is a strong word he just seemed a little lost out there.
Again that is why he sat on the bench for a couple of shifts. I also was at the game last night.
As for the traverse city tournament out of the offense fortin has the nhl speed but cannot finish Sikura I was not that impressed with and as you see good hustle but just something lacking.
I really liked Entwistle but everyone is seeing that now. As for the defense the only ones were Beaudin who has great vision and can play just needs to get stronger and oh course Boqvist nice skater needs to get stronger also but I could see him making the team.

I noticed he won a couple puck battles in the corner with his strength, pushing in and winning position on the puck.

In Chicago, Manny's is OK - I don't think it's as good as it was - but then again - what is.

Kaufman's in Skokie on Dempster is pretty good - a very good brisket sandwich off of the deckle. Max's in Northbrook has good corned beef. Not many others, I think, for good Jewish deli sandwiches (altho NY Bagle and Bialy on Touhy has the best bagels in the area, and good lox and other smoked fish).

One of the problems with deli sandwiches in Chicago is the lack of a good Jewish rye bread. Used to be, the rye bread was darker, crustier, coarser than what passes for it today - too much like Beefsteak Rye - doesn't hold up to the meat very well.

Meh - everything was better when I was young....

My guess is they got him back to help Rockford, they may recall him again. I thought he looked OK but I prefer to wait 30 or 40 games before I make assessments. Scouting has a way figuring out the tendencies of new players. They figured out Delia pretty quickly after a good start with the Hawks.

I didn't get the animal wrong but the gender. Though not uncommon as this would explain...

The singular, cow, technically means the female, the male being bull. The plural form cows is sometimes used colloquially to refer to both sexes collectively, as e.g. in a herd, but that usage can be misleading as the speaker's intent may indeed be just the females. The bovine species per se is clearly dimorphic.

I thought he played well after the first period - made the right plays, patience with the puck, nothing flashy but steady.

Colliton had him out there for several shifts fairly late in the third trying to protect the lead.
