did we get Entwistle in the Hartman trade?
- glennjpawlak22

I thought Entwistle was from Arizona. Ejdsell was from Nashville. I think.

Your beef (pun intended) has always been about the price and size of the sandwich. Never seen you post that they weren't good in terms of taste.

You're still the only person I've heard beef about Johnnie's. Great fries too. They are in fact awesome.

- HawkintheD

Johnnies is soooo much better than Al's taste wise and about half the price. I live in Oak Park and went to school (many years ago) at UIC(C) near Al's and have had more than I can count from both of them. Al's fresh cut fries are better than the Johnnies food service ones, but only when they are fresh and not all limp and soggy (kinda like the Hawks D )

Better than both Johnnie's and Al's is the Philly cheese steak at Monti's, on Talman at Lawrence.

Thanks Trob! Haven't had Al's as much. They weren't around me growing up, but agree when you get good fresh cut fries, they're the best. Johnnie's are more the shoestring variety which are good too, but yeah they are likely the Simplot frozen foodservice kind.

Johnnie's has the best tasting beef sandwich (that I've had), and also I'm calling foul on Sage. Two minutes for introducing a completely different type of sandwich...you can't do that!

Yeaster. You can try Johnnie's. Everyone needs to understand crushing disappointment.

I'm sure it pales in comparison to the others but I've been partial to the cheese steaks at Philly's Best. There's one on Belmont and in Rogers Park (although I think the RP one rebranded as a sports bar). Evanston location closed many years ago.

Californians rave about In-n-Out burgers. It's a good burger but not the best in the world as they make it out to be. Prefer a Portillo's burger, to be honest. Fries are much better at Portillo's than In-n-Out as well.

Portillo's does have a great burger. My favorite from the fast food chains. Crinkle cut fries are great too.

Rockford has 2 games in Texas Friday and Saturday, and probably want him to play in those for the Hogs playoff push.
- LAHawk

As you and likely many on this site know, it is a process. Dmen can take a long time to become up to par. There is no standard; it can be a vety individual accomplishment when measuring growth or maturation.......the 300 or so game experience is cited but even this is no guarantee of being adequate in each area.

Sometimes a coach tties to live with a weakness and hopes the defense pair can help cover. In bygone days - example old six team league - dmen would play many years AHL and might be 27 or so before they could stick

Boqvist has too much to learn. Gilbert can see what he has accomplished, what he needs to work on, and just the fact that he has learned some of the nuances of playing defense really spurs him onwards. The coaches will tell him what he needs to work on..

You want to look at comparison with current players which is a good idea since we are familar with them

Leddy has certain things he.does well. But he never has progressed into a top dman. Ellis on Nashville was horrific
.He needed to learn the basics of which way to turn etcal. when an on coming forward would dump the puck and he is coming at speed. Yes Ellis got by in junior but had to go to AHL

Trotz had him. But where he learned - AHL and or AHL - he was a quick study and it took one season to at least become adequate.

Johns still has issues and like Ellis that one particular issue was a weak point. I truly believe that Bowman did not think that Johns, a converted forward, was going to mature beyond a 2nd more 3rd pair.

I had discussion on those players with wiz in past years.

Now how about comparing all those #1 dmen NYI drafted or acquired over the years.

Presently i am intrigued with Pullock. He has a great shot and. I recall two goals once and one goal another time in NYI victories against us. He was in the AHL and used it as a stepping stone.

Whom do you feel is better: Hickey or deHahn? I bet NYI are glad to have Hickey now than deHahn.

Now looking at our team the reports are that Beaudin already understands and plays well defensively. Mitchell is similar in that he could play NHL now but he is needing tad more improvement defensively.

I am guessing that Carlsson and Gilbert are getting close but still need to improve. So i have just named four prospects nearly ready then add Jokiharju, too.

Obviously you cannot start too many rookies on same defense. And whom plays what side, whom do you have now in NHL to mix and match? Oh i could see perhaps two and even three playing big minutes by the end of next season.

Not Boqvist yet. No need to rush him even though he has great skill. There are simply.too many others ahead of him. Defense has to be descent on first two pairs and even should Gus improve, defensively, it will take careful planning and utilzation how and when to plug in all these prospects.

I like the positive things in the game of each in the current Colliton troika: Koekkoek, Forsling, Dahlstrom.
I tend to go with Dahlstrom for sure and am cheering for Koekkoek. I really want to see his willingness to hit because it would be helpful to have more of that in the future blurline corps. I mean Colliton system too has to employ forwards who backcheck and are responsible if you go with a lot of kids. Forsling....he's on trial now and i just don't know how he turns out.

But no Boqvist any time soon. It is a great idea if he could fit now but Gus really had that calling card for now. And i would not be opposed to both Gus and Bowvist same defense one day. Are you kidding me - wow what a future - the blueline could become our biggest team strength.

As far as Kyrs goes, i suspect that he needs a season AHL. I would like to see both him and Hillman play a season in AHL. Also i KNOW blogger Rick.has good insight and has helped wiz with junior report on one occasion (how & what extent i do not know). Many others have contributed and see these guys play.....even prospects in USHL some of you see up and coming. AEL_FOX has contributed often I feel thorough and accurate assessment of the depth on defense. I look forward to the contribution from all of you.

Any of you have Kuma's Corner burgers? I've had it and just couldn't get myself to like it as much as it was hyped up to be. Decent burger, just not out of this world.

Hope Kurashev can parlay this into a starting spot next year on the Hogs and have a solid training camp with the Hawks again.

In a few games so far, Hagel and R Johnson have acquitted themselves decently.

Apparently, though, Osipov was signed by the Hogs again to a PTO. Don’t really see the point of that with a good cadre of D prospects in place already and perhaps a few more getting aboard this summer depending on what Beaudin and Mitchell decide.

- AEL_Fox

Osipov was already released from his PTO. Happened about a week ago.

" Nevermind. Just saw the again part. Agreed with your points.

(frank) taste, if it's cheap and big it's gotta be better!!! I mean what would you rather have a $40 Rib Eye or 6 $2 hot dogs? Nuff said!!
- paulr

Al's, Which is fantastic BTW, is slightly more expensive but they actually put meat on the sandwich as opposed to Johnnies. Where it is a rumor.

That's what I thought but either Blackhawk Up or Second City Hockey reported that Asipov was signed to a PTO. They're not the best reporters and are bad at fact checking. Blackhawk Up is notoriously bad at updates. The Fourth Period, too.

Elwood Park. Right on North Ave. Turn right into the lot and step back into the 60's. Or in your case, into the 60's

Also, its a beef stand.

You weren't at Johnnie's. Always get a juicy beef. Beef's juicy anyway but then they dip the bun.

Sounds to me more like you were maybe smoking up a bit...possibly the left handed cigarettes? Dry mouth, wasn't enough food cause you had the munchies and you were a bit askew so you don't remember the order.

Portillo's isn't bad though.

Any number of posters on this blog could write better articles for Blackhawk Up and a few other sites. I just check them out to get factual information like transactions. I rarely read their analyses because they're not anything great or insightful.

But yes, I do find SCH to be one of the better ones as they update daily and are pretty accurate.
