Thinking about it more we should sign Olofsson now
Yea it might sound crazy but it could be a David Pastrnak , Nikita Kucherov , Arvidsson type deal Where we’re rewarded
You can see him and jack are just going to click 4 points in 5 games
His skating and his Ovechkin like release is hard to ignore
If you can sign him for 3m for 4 -5 years or 3.5 that contract is going to be Great value for us
It would be better to sign him now then have him get 30G or have a crazy year with Jack and get 5m
And he be 29 or 28 if we get a 4 or 5 year contract now

21 of those points were with Eichel. When you take away the points he chipped in on the 4th line, his middle 6 production was close to nothing. I expected a solid 3rd line contribution form him. He didn't provide that.
I wish him well. Time to move on. - Lunaion
Ok, so how many points did sam or skinner have without jack?
Those dont count either?
Kinda nitpicky. The reason pommer was on the line with jack:
Other players weren't able to produce there.
You cant take any of pommers 30 points away
Or the fact that he is 4th in goal scoring on the team

so........................................
why did olofsson not get a good look in December when this team needed a spark? - homiedclown
Botts has long term vision in mind. Player development for Olofsson was more important for him long term. Why he didn’t send Thompson down a couple of months ago is odd but at least he got it right with Olofsson. |

The NHL is a little different if I remember. Something along the lines of teams that lose if you lose in the first round, it doesn't exactly seed that way. If a 1 seed loses, they aren't slotted into the worst of the first round exiters position. I think, and I very well could be wrong, that the first two rounds (Not Conference finals) are weighted by season rankings. So if a 1 seed loses, they are picking around 27, pending if the other 1 seed loses as well.
Edit: This years example: TBL lose in the first round to the CBJ. There would be 8 teams left. 31 - 8 = 23. Line of thinking would be they would get the 23rd pick. But if I'm correct, they would actually get the 27th pick as the best team in the reg season this year that didn't make a CF. - SDSabre
This is true. All losers of the first round are slotted into 16-23, based on their reg season record. Then losers of the 2nd round, 24-27, 3rd round 28-29. |

Homie- why are you still pretending that the Sabres went "all out" this season.
Maybe they didnt intend on completely "tanking" but they didnt "go for it" either
Of course goaloffson would have made us a better team then , tall tage.
Next year, goaloffson will have been brought along the right way. Not hurried . For a race to 8th place.
Botts would have mortgaged futures at some point this season ,if we were really trying to make the playoffs |

I’ve had this same thought, but everyone I hear and read that covers Rochester said he really wasn’t playing great up until mid season.
I’m just happy he’s here now and looks good - sbroads24

A smart decision on what? A 6 game sample size of a promising player? I like him, but it's not in the player's best interest to sign a low contract a year before he's due. It's just not how business works. Or, Botts can say here's 3M for 3 years. What if he doesn't pan out? Botts and the org look like dopes (in this scenario) |

The anomaly here is Thompson. Every single prospect other than Thompson went to Rochester. Every one. I don't get it. |

I appreciate the non combatant view.
1 page - pommer only has 9 points because he played with jack
Another page- sam is on pace for 65 points. No mention of his time with jack.
I think both pommer and sam had good seasons
Well above expectations. (Mine anyways)
If trading sam helps this team. They need to do it.
If pommer returning hurts this team, they need to not offer him a contract.
Pretty simple |
