I know your Svechnikov bit was just bait for me but (frank) it I'm taking it:
He's spent the majority of the year on a line with Lukas Wallmark and Jordan Martinook, where he's required to carry the defensive load. Seriously.
When they flipped Svech and Ferland around Svechnikov's production improved, but that 3rd line got absolutely caved in.
He's been the best forward on the ice for the last month or so. He just doesn't play with anyone good. Ever.
As for the PP thing, they put him down at the side of the net on the 2nd powerplay unit and he never touches the puck. 1st unit is primarily just TT and Aho playing catch up high for a minute and a half, and then the second unit is the same thing, but with Hamilton and Slavin doing it instead. The Canes never work down low with the puck on the PP. It's infuriating. - BINGO!

Svechnikov is going to be good if he can just slightly fine tune his shot. |

He's going to put up top flight numbers. If Jordan Martinook could ever learn how to receive a pass or Lucas Wallmark could learn how to shoot a puck Svech would probably have a dozen more assists this year. |

Svechnikov brings back memories of Hall's rookie season. All world talent with all the tools but only produced solid offensive numbers because he needed a little fine-tuning to find the next gear of production. Explains the perceptional variance between what you can see on the ice versus the raw numbers. |

i don't think the hype that preceded Pettersson reflected him gettting almost a point/ game.... i doubt anyone in the media or in the know thought that'd be the case...
especially the idiots at the CBC who try to find any reason to take the shine of anything Canucks... |

It's not all that far away from reasonable. They temper their expectations and his rookie year just so happened to coincide with a year where scoring spiked rather substantially and the game became more accommodating to players of his skillset.
Much like when Nuge broke into the league and posted 52 in 62, I'll be curious whether he can build on this level of production or settle in more defensively like Nuge did. Having Horvat might help him lean towards offense. |

He's technically in there. - AdamFrench
Jonnson is different than the other players mentionned. The rest are so young and have genuinely surprised, both in the good and bad. Jonnson however is a classic case of a well developed, long term project. Drafted in the 7th round, and then spent the next 5 years along the development path, culminating in a rock solid rookie season. He is now a 2nd line scoring forward with hands and speed, who is defensively responsible. Based on everything we've seen over the years, I don't think anyone is surprised. Except that it happened on the Leafs, who have traditionally not had a good development system. |

Quite a few hockey 'experts' in Sweden expected exactly that!
Only in the new world would the leading experts think that the guy who broke Forsberg's records was an average+ guy... |

They'll see back to back 40 point seasons and a +12 or whatever, remember some of his bigger hits, and they'll fork over $5+ mill no questions asked.
Then they'll realize that when Gaudreau and Aho aren't bouncing pucks in the net off his junk he doesn't really do much. - BINGO!
