I really do understand people thinking this way.
I think if someone else walks in unfamiliar with what is going on I think it will delay things.
I think Loui will be taken care of after July 1 because they have seen enough. A new guy may want to see what he has.
Benning has said he doesn't think they are going big name hunting in the summer , a new guy may try to hit a home run.
I would prefer at this point to see them bring someone in to mentor Benning instead of starting over. The end game still is to replace JB but do it by growing someone from inside. - VANTEL
I wouldn't say "mentor". Gillis may have a point by having a President of Hockey Ops, GM, and 4 AGMs which sounds like overkill but if you split up responsibilities correctly to match their strong suits it doesn't sound that crazy. Not that i'm trying to make a case for MG but you certainly need an uber boss there. |

Obviously mentor was a poor choice of words it should have been buffer.
I have worked at my job for 45 years and there is always something to learn . When I work with others in my age bracket we are constantly teaching and learning from each other. Anyone thinking you learn everything in 5 years well no comment.
I do like the idea of a few asst GMs but I am not sure anyone should be taking advice from the Ex GM who ran this team into the ground . |

the funny thing is that people think that the gm is a learn as you go job.
sorry, but that's not how things should work at the top.
you could be right about bringing in a pres/uber-boss to over see things but where does that lead? that guy will want his own gm who will want his own coach. so we're back at firing benning and getting someone new.
either give benning all the leeway he needs to make the decisions or don't.
at the top, there should be a clear direction where the organization is heading and all moves should support that vision. i haven't seen that in the 5 years since benning has been here.
you can blame whomever you want but at the end of the day he is the highest hired person in charge. bosses who learn on the job usually talk about how they were right to be fired when they get hired again. |

I can't believe fans seem to want our old retreads back, whether it be Gillis or Burke or Vigneault or Linden or even some of the players...always good for a chuckle. |

Demko
Dipietro
Boeser
Hughes
Pettersson
Gaudette
Juolevi
Pearson (shrewd move good surprise) and Leivo
Woo
Madden
Lockwood
So on...
Stop being so bloody negative.

I’d add Sven, rousell, burrows trade, Hansen trade, stetcher, and some of the stuff NOT done.
Didn’t give up on Marky (I was ready to toss his for Sure)
The EP draft was not a regular top 5 draft.
Is he the best? Nope. Is he doing a decent job and getting better? I think so.

If not ill would Pat Quinn not have been good to have in the organization?
Did Manny not help as a face off coach?

I think there has/is a power struggle going on. John Weisbrod may be a snake in the grass imo. You need someone to make sure all the oars are going in the same direction. |

who brought him in?
who's responsible for team culture especially in the front office?
you're absolutely right that all the oars have to be going in the same direction. to me, benning just doesn't have the right makeup to be a good executive outside of giving his scouting/player opinion.
he doesn't seem like a "manager" or someone who has the ability to stick to a long term plan without being talked out of it. |

I can't say for sure, if he has helped or not.
Bo has improved immensely, bit can we give Manny the credit, or is that just his drive too be the best he can be.
I am sure Cloutier has helped improve the goaltending and Baumgartner has improved the defense, just like Linden helped improve the management structure. |

Might have been good at the time but Dahlen is gone and Goldobin is going.
Benning should be terminated before he ruins this franchise. |

Stecher was the only player that was scouted out of the NCAA, the rest were drafted out of the USHL (I believe).
Elliot + Teves + Rafferty aren't going to be any type of solution to how void we are of talent on the backend. Benning plucking a few undrafted UFA defenseman shows his willingness to address a glaring issue, but shouldn't be considered any sort of solution. These kids may or may not pan out, but we are talking years down the road, after significant stints in the AHL (i imagine). - Codes1087
I disagree. I could see one of them making the lineup right out of camp much like Stecher did. I’m not saying the d is fixed, ive never said anything close to that. I said good on adding depth to our weakest position. Unless im wrong and we hang onto some rfa’s, there’s going to be a few spots up for grabs. Those guys, much like Stecher, are a but furher ahead in their development/older than the other kids in the system. I fully expect at least a UFA signing on d but im hoping he goes for a big trade too. |

The difference between Manny and the other three guys you mentioned. Manny was one of the best at what he did . The other three not so much.
You don't take a guy just because he played for your team before nor do you refuse a guy who was good at what he did because he played for your team before. |
