A 22yr old trigger man (who already has 59 career goals) playing a big role on a rebuilding sh!tshow & you wanna bury him for defensive miscues? I’m happy he’s learning lessons in real crunch time when the only consequence is a higher draft pick.

I think Brock has poop defensive skills and a mediocre overall hockey IQ( like Jake). He has a fantastic ability to score goals.
I have said before that he is a needed player on this team, but, he has several flaws to his game.
We can criticize many players on this team and the Golden Boy isn't untouchable.

I think his IQ is much much higher than Jake's. His defense is getting better, though nowhere near where he needs to be to be an elite player. That and his skating are the biggest areas of improvement... but, given that he had no off season last year, and that he's in his second year as a pro, he should have some slack to work with.

If Hockey IQ is only considered to be in the offensive zone, then yes I would agree his IQ is much, much higher than Jake, but, last I checked, hockey is played in all 3 zones and Brock, at this current stage of his career, is mediocre at best, in 2 of those zones.

So I guess Goldobin is coming back also then seeing they didn't trade him at TDL and we can expect Schaller also
- VANTEL

I seem to remember a JB comment about shopping Goldobin at the TDL.

I don't believe I said even something remotely close to that.

I was applying your theory if they didn't trade him at TDL then must be bringing him back

- VANTEL

My bad

I’m more implying that it’s stupid not to trade him beforehand and now lose him for nothing

I know those words annoy some Canuck fans but it’s true.

I have zero doubts that Goldy was shopped. I refuse to believe that they shopped Hutton and couldn’t even get a 4th or 5th for him.

I think this whole year if there was a decent offer for Hutton he would have been gone. I don't think any team was offering anything much.

I don't think they shopped Hutton. Vantel is right in we dont know for sure but no farther than listening if anyone possibly asked I bet.

Boeser’s just slow, he’s gonna get burned defensively but it’s easier to forgive a winger who can score 30+ for defensive mistakes than it is for a dman or center who puts up only 15-25 points.

He is an offensive player, so we judge him more on that, as we do JV. His IQ being higher in the O zone means more than in the neutral or D zone. His IQ in those two – given his age, his ability, and his overall recovery – is average... you said "a mediocre overall hockey IQ", which is just not correct, especially when comparing to JV.

I’d rather have a 5th than nothing. Now if you think that even a 5th wasn’t on the table we can agree to disagree

Same. Especially since Green played him 25 minutes some nights when Edler was out.

I think much of Boeser's defensive flaws are his lack of short burst speed. He doesnt think he's going to get there even if its 2 stsps away, he doesnt try. Sometimes it translates to lack of awareness.

I can agree on they could get a 5th but they can get a 5 th in the off season too. I know I don't want to watch another season of Burger Boy

The recent article in the Province talks about him knowing he needs to work on that, but losing out on the last off season setting him back a bit. I think he'll come back a bit quicker each year.

So, pointing out the obvious flaws on Brock, means I am in need of a whipping boy?
I have raised this topic several times this season, as I have some serious concerns about his poor decisions in the defensive zone.
I have also said, that he is a much needed player for this franchise and he drastically needs to improve his game in several aspects.
As I stated in a previous comment, Brock is not untouchable, when in comes to criticism on his obvious shortcomings.
