I think Jake is the type of guy you want on your 3rd line in the Playoffs, and think within 2 seasons we can get there.

Well it was in the context of JV. Fans get frustrated with his lack of hustle but I see some skill there that I’m not ready to give up on. Yet. Same goes for Goldy I guess. There just seems there’s a little more there than 3rd line talent. Just don’t know if it can be coached out of them.

I would kill a thousand Hansen’s to get one Kovalev.

He definitely has skill — and I think that’s why people want him to hustle. It’s basically like telling a younger kid to “apply themselves”. There’s so much potential people see in JVs skill, his hustle/consistency is poop most of the time. Goldy the same. Skill plus hustle.

Bo hustles his ass off. If he didn’t, he would be the third line center everyone pegged him as out of the draft.

I think Vantel singles out JV because he’s one of the few tradeable players we have Based on potential and not actual skill set.

This is exactly it. I really like Jake but I like the Canucks more

I came to the conclusion half way through the season that Jake will be this generations Raffi Torres.

Sure, if you have a ‘deep’ roster. I really hope that’s what we have in two seasons.

I wonder if JV is a skill guy miscast as a middling power forward.

I have the opinion aggression/hustle/intense pursuit of the puck is a personality trait.

Switching gears to football, I always remember Mike Singletary’s eyes. So intense. Matched his on-field personality. Much like Torres in hockey. Burrows to a lesser extent. I think that’s hard to manufacture if it’s not part of who you are.

If Zack MacEwen had that drive he would be in the NHL

What are you guys discussing today? Vans rebuild should be done twice as fast as every other team? JB can't trade Gaunce for Kucherov? Should get a softer line up?

I remember this Seinfeld episode where George had this method of appearing to be busy by walking around, holding a bunch of papers, looking stressed. Nothing was getting done but people thought “that guys working hard, things are being dealt with”.

Bill Gates had an interesting take on employees who appeared to be slaking. If people can find the easiest less stressful route to success, that’s the people who he wants on his team.

Regardless of the appearance of effort, goals and assists win championships.

Seinfeld worked 20 mins a night no wonder he hung out with slackers.

WD loved Vey because he hustled.

See it all the time, coaches who fall in love with guys who hustle. These players hustle their way to 13 goals a season. Hustle their team to 20th place. But hey, they should be proud... lead by example.

Several people have asked me if I’m happy with the way the @Canucks season has gone. The answer is both yes and no. I’m working on a letter about that which will go out to our Season Ticket Members on Sunday. I’ll post it here as well.
