He should’ve been fired just for the sake of firing him months ago. I don’t see how it would have any more of a negative impact on our power play? What exactly would there be to lose? - Cptmjl
Even Doug Weight's sh!tty power play was better than this. And he's still on the payroll. |

If anything is going to cause this teams early exit from the playoffs it’ll most likely by the power play. |

Well, not surprisingly the analytics crowd has the Isles out before the series even starts: https://theathletic.com/9...ew-islanders-vs-penguins/
By most objective measures, taking fandom out of it, I think most people would pick the Pens to win this series. Even just on the surface, they have bigger names and a lot more experience (and successful experience) in the playoffs.
But all season I think it's been obvious who's been writing articles based only on staring at stats and who's been writing articles based on stats and actually watching games. The analytics-only crowd would have you believe Lehner and Greiss magically became two of the best goalies in the league overnight, completely independent of anything the Isles have done, and it's just been luck. Anyone watching the games can see glaringly obvious differences in how this team plays defensively compared to last year. |

I 100% agree with you but the special teams are a concern. I was praying we would not face the pens in first round mainly b/c of their PP and of course our Powerless play. If we can stay out of the box I think we can win this series. The more 5 on 5 the better. |

Not that I'm particularly inclined to defend Dipshit Doug but the PP last year was 6th in the NHL
http://www.nhl.com/stats/...Played,gte,1&sort=ppPctg& - eichiefs9
Dippoop Doug had a legit sniper on last year's power play. PB, despite his defensive flaws, was a weapon on the pp that this year's team lacks. So it's kind of an apples and oranges comparison.
By the way, wasn't Gomez in charge of the pp last season, too? [Not a rhetorical question, I really don't remember.... ] |

Oh yeah, the Pens power play is terrifying and, really, they should be favored to win the series based on who's on that team and what they've done recently.
I guess my point is more about the analytics articles all season long...some of them from people who just lazily glance at the stats and push out smart-sounding content. I'm not saying "stats r garbage," just that something's obviously missing in the data points used. Looking at the near-identical performances of Lehner and Greiss shouldn't lead to the conclusion of, "Wow, both goalies miraculously became god-like at the same time for the same team...those lucky Isles!" It should instead be, "What are the Isles doing that the stats aren't showing where they can put either goalie in net and have the same results?" |

I wasn't comparing the two, just saying that the PP wasn't bad last year.

Well, if we're talking about this year's pathetic pp, and someone brings up last year's pp, isn't a comparison implied? By the way, my comment wasn't aimed just at you. Others have been comparing the two pps prior to your post. |

That was my recollection. So maybe it's not just Gomez??? As I have previously posted, I read somewhere that Trotz himself is hands-on when it comes to the PP. In other words, he is working closely with Gomez in the PP's design. And as Vukota recently posted, it's doubtful that Gomez is instructing the PP to just pass the puck around. It's the players who have to execute and, for whatever reason, they're not doing so.
Having said all that, I'm all for firing Gomez anyway, just because he's a Snow/Weight holdover. |

Well Gomez continuously throws Clutterbuck out there and there weren’t any changes to the pp in months when there was an obvious issue. I get it there’s not many players to chose from but it’s not working change it. Also yeah like vukota said the players aren’t executing but maybe they’re not being played to their strengths either. Irregardless he’s the pp coach. The pp sucks. The answer is to keep the coach? Not usually how this is done... |

Right, I am hopeful Gomez will be replaced in the off season. But without better player personnel, I'm not expecting miracles from the pp next season either. |

I mean the comment I was replying to was about "Doug Weight's shi tty PP". All I was saying was that it was the 6th best PP in the league last year so it wasn't really that shi tty. |

Pretty much agree. Think if the Isles PP was even somewhat functional I would pick you guys.
Pitts PP is crazy what they can ice out there. |

Well technically it didn't set you guys back. Addition by subtraction. Only thing it screwed you guys out of was a couple picks.
I like how he said "or a 2nd" don't know if that was a dig at JT or Gilles is a little loopy |

Probably the latter but I will blindly assume it was the former because I'm petty |
