I just read on twitter that the Leafs have never had a player win the Art Ross or Norris in franchise history

They must not be watching the same NHL game.

Eriksson will be bought out before he even reaches 34.

I mean he is kind of right - although why he said 35 on the high end only Jim knows. Pretect Loui’s feelings? BOS Ave. Age is 29 - TA - 27.5 TO - 27.5 SJ = 29 NSH = 28 PITT = 29

28 is the average age among playoff teams. It’s not 23 as many of you seem to assume. He should be heckled for saying 35 though. If he had said 25-30 it would have made more sense

This was taken out of context, and believe me, I am not a Benning supporter in the very least, but:

Average ages of SC winners:
Capitals - 28.4 (above league average)
Penguins - 28.7 and 29.0 (above)
Hawks - 29.3 (above)
Kings - 27.4 (below by .1)
Hawks - 26.8 (below)
Kings - 26.7 (below)
Bruins - 28.3 (above)
Hawks - 26.6 (below)

people are getting up in arms over that comment, and i agree, he shouldn't have said 35 (in my opinion, trying to justify the LE's and Jay Beagle contracts, and soon to be Edler contract), but fact still remains that the average age of the last however many stanley cup winning teams is above 25.

That is a team in trouble.
They have a 3rd and a 7th pick this year, no 2nd or 3rd next season, not much in the way of prospects and some free agents that will be very costly to re-sign.
On the positive side for them, they do have 30 million on capspace.

- Reubenkincade

But they made the playoffs!

I respect their GM for going all in, and why not? They have drafted and developed pretty well and have a lot of decent role players. If they make it to the 2nd round I think it will be viewed as a successful season and they cleary are going to have huge departures next year. The can reset then.

Jim basically said nothing the whole press conference. Complainers need to grasp at something. Jim will never go a whole media session without making a mistake. Loui must feel good about himself #glueguy#littlethings

Jim is just covering all his bases. If he says "teams win with players aged 25-30", then the media and fanbase comes at him with "why the f*ck did you sign LE, Beagle, Edler, Roussel", all of whom will be 30 or older next year.

In Free Agency we're going to look at all of our options. If there's moves we can make to address weaknesses we think we have - we're going to try to be aggressive to address those
