Who cares. All that matters is he said that if they have weaknesses, they’ll try to be aggrsssive in free agency to address it.
I think Vantel is right about them trying to make a trade at the draft first but if nothing materializes then expect a couple of significant UFA signings. - Nucker101
JB is saying if moves are available that address their weaknesses, they will aggressively go after them. Your quote is the most accurate so far but his statement is still a bit different than saying we are aggressively going to fill those holes.
He's not actually promising much with that statement. *If* the right players are available. Pretty much a rubber stamp statement. |

Every member of the organization said playoffs. Which, is the goal obviously. I just wonder if they truly believe they are just one step away... - 1970vintage
They actually said the goal was to take another step (as in, we progressed and got better) next year and neither green/jb mentioned the playoffs as the goal for next year. |

Don't know if this has been talked about, but first round predictions?
I have:
CGY
SJS
NSH
WPG
TBL
TOR
WSH
PIT
I've seen a few people saying St Louis is the hot team and will sneak past the jets but I'm not totally sold. The TOR/BOS series is also a really tough call - NorthNuck

They are definitely closer than you think. Remember our discussion the other day when you said 5 or 6 wins wouldnt make much of a difference? 5 wins puts the Canucks in the playoffs with a point to spare in the 8th slot. 6 wins ties them with Dallas and Vegas in the 6/7 slot. - boonerbuck
You are assuming that none of these other teams also improve, which they all will be gunning to do. I don’t think they can improve by 12-15 points next year. I don’t believe they will attract a Panarin or a Karlsson. I don’t think they can “fix” things in free agency or via trade. Trading for a legit upgrade on defense will create a hole at forward. Sutter (and others) isn’t going to get you anything. If they are truly building, then it is going to take more time. Time for the existing guys to improve, time for new draft picks to mature and time for future draft picks to bear fruit. |

The disturbing part is his track record of identifying the "right" players.

Upgrade/ replace Schaller, goblin and Hutton and we may make the playoffs. That continued with organic growth from our youth. Those three need to go - CanuckDon
That press release seemed to be selling the hutton “obvious extension” as if thatvone good month meant he had a great bounce back year. This will be my least favorite thing this offseason. |

Ya I struggle with TOR/BOS too. But had to go BOS in my bracket.
STL had a great run since Jan but are they really built for the PO's like the Jets? I'm saying Jets in 6-7.
Dallas may surprise NSH. Stingiest team in the league Dallas is.
Torn on VGK/SJ as well but ultimately had to go with SJ.
CAL
SJ
DAL
WPG

PIT. - LordHumungous
Without looking at head to head series this season, I’ll go with my gut
Col beats Cal in 6.
Vegas over SJS in 7.
Nsh sweeps Dallas.
Stl upsets Winnipeg in 7.

He’ll get extended this summer, it will push Carols blog chat over 1000 posts of crying by the same people who call players soft and princess and say feelings

Is not “the goal next year, is to make the playoffs”
All he’s doing is saying this group can play better than it did and if they do everything right than they’ll have a shot. They will be a bubble team next year, it’s not much of a stretch at this point as we improved on last year and will likely be better next year. |

I did not assume anything. Your statement that 5 or 6 wins wouldnt have made much of a difference is wrong. Canucks are in the playoffs with that. You are assuming what the teams would and wouldnt do next season not me. I was right that they are closer than you think based on your statement.

you have a right to your own opinion regarding his extension, but i have no idea what you were trying to say regarding Benning and an extension and "player softness" and the irony of it all, what does 1 thing have to do with the others. Seemed like a loaded and incoherent statement. |
